  1. I have been reading about Hardie and wood siding because there are several boards that have wood rot on my house. Also there are two black growths (see pic) about the size of a pencil eraser at the base of the growth. I have been living in it for 2.5 years, so I don't know the history of the siding. I might have the whole house re-done depending on what I find on the other side of random pieces of siding. So my questions are: 1) How can I prevent wood rot in the future? I didn't see paint peeling or holes in the exterior siding. Did the original installer not prime both sides and the ends? 2) Is the picture a type of mold or fungi? I can not find any information when I google it. Thanks, John
  2. Guys, that topic was over a year ago. But "MajorD" has a question that I would like the answer to as well. Does anybody know if those are fungi spores?
  3. my vote is for a ditch. it does hold more water and it drains quicker (if properly maintained). i have seen the city come in with a backhoe and trench the neighboring ditches, but it's too wide and shallow. i've seen ditches large enough to park a mini cooper in it. those wide ditches also hold water after a heavy rain. and the yards that have underground culverts, the adjacent ditches don't drain properly. that's my observation and i don't know what causes that (culvert or ditch). the only cons i have with the ditches are mowing the grass in them and soil erosion. i don't know if the soil is falling apart because of the rain or by me occasionally parking on the side of the street.
  4. You can always go to the Town Square and enjoy a drink at Sherlocks. I've always enjoyed my Friday lunches there. Inside the loop, try the following: Breakfast = The Daily Grind Quick Lunch = El Rey Long Lunch = Barnaby's or Daily Review Dinner = too many to list
  5. we have a wooden deck and since all the leaves fell and got wet the deck was stained, now it needs to be bleached and cleaned up. Just one thing to consider.
  6. nice house... we ended up getting the same sink in our '30s bungalow, under-mount though...
  7. I'm stuck looking for a HVAC service for my central air. Any recommendations for AC repair would be appreciated. By the way I'm looking to fix my cracked heat exchanger. Thanks
