  1. Because watching infantile people throw hissy fits over cancelled projects is a sick form of entertainment for me. But seriously, what is this, an interview? This is about Victory Park vs HP and the East End, not me.

Since you north Texans put so much value in what Houstonians think, I feel I am doing you all a service in offering my opinion. After all, why would someone living in north Texas come to a Houston based forum to find out about what's going on in their own back yards? This isn't about what Dallasites think of Dallas. It's about what Houstonians think of Dallas.

This sub-forum isn't here for Dallasites to fluff their fragile egos. That's what dallasmetropolis is for. 95% of the people surfing HAIF are probably from Houston. And although I don't think there is anything going on in Dallas that is very relevant to Houston, I suppose this DFW sub-forum gives Houstonians a place to discuss what's going on in Dallas.

That's all I'm doing. Just killing time and discussing what is going on in Dallas (namely Victory Park vs HP and the East End)(or should I say - what is NOT going on in Victory Park.   ).

What are YOU doing ND? I'll tell you. You're asking Mister X to talk about Mister X. O.K. I can do that in another sub forum, but lets please keep the topic about Victory and Houston's East End. In the mean time come back anytime for more Houstonians opinions about Dallas, I'll give you all you can handle. Until a moderator makes me stop.

Everything you just stated is why I usually only come over here about once a month, and even then it's only for entertainment purposes. Some of you folks down there seem incredibly insecure when you disparage Uptown Dallas' construction or when you tear apart some of the dumb Dallas homers that post here. Overall, I think it's pretty harmless and funny, but sometimes it's just too much to take, and I make a post in response. So thats what I was doing X.

Oh and I appreciate the pic Trae. just so you know, as ive read more and more of your posts on different development sites, ive begun to ignore what you say more and more. but again, thanks for Ray

  2. Well, despite assurances "confidently" given us by someone "working in the building industry . . . in Dallas" that the construction of the tower was well underway back in February, including the drilling of piers on the site for both the tower and garage portions, and despite the crazed claims by several other of our Dallas friends to the effect that the tower structure was under construction many months ago... it now seems that construction on the tower portion is not even scheduled to begin until October or November of 2008! (This according to a recent post on the DallasMetropolis board)

And those piers under the tower portion of the site?? Yea the portion where they are still parking cars?? ? . ? . ? Odd, very odd.

hmmm....sounds like someone down south is getting giddy over the prospects that this building may be on hold or even better yet, altogether cancelled. But seriously, as others at dallasmetropolis mentioned, this would be a huge blow to Hillwood and Perot's reputation if it didn't get built. Plus, it's a mix of office, hotel, retail, and a few condos, so the mortgage lending bust shouldn't have as great an impact if it were all condo. For those reasons, I'm confident, that much to 19514's chagrin, it'll go up as planned...eventually.

  3. FW is now in striking distance of having a larger core population than San Franscisco (less than 60K difference) There's some food for thought.

That's some really unsatisfying food you're serving. You need to consider land area of cities and population density in your analysis. SF, after all is just 47 square miles. FW just about matches SF in population, but it takes about seven times as much land or 281 square miles. Chew on that. Both Dallas and Ft. Worth need to improve their density figures and worry less about overall totals.

  4. My interpretation of the statement is that Fort Worth is as important to DFW as Dallas or any suburb. I don't read anything that implies that Fort Worth is a suburb; in fact, it says that it is as important culturally as Dallas.

Exactly the interpretation that I got too.

I for one get tired of people in Dallas and other places that try to discount Fort Worth - it's a great city that has a lot of good stuff to offer much of which can't be found on the other side of the Metroplex. I live in Dallas, and I really like Dallas. But I also really like Fort Worth. Why the hell does it seem like I'm in the minority here?

  5. No argument there ND. Let's face it, Victory is cool, and will get better as construction of the area matures. That being said, it becomes fun to poke at some Dallas posters who never post a negative side to Dallas, while the Houston posters post negatives about their city daily. To me thst shows that cultural perceptions can sometimes be true, at least in this case.

I will say that after following Dallas Metropolis off and on, there are a few posters that seem genuinely unbiased.

I agree, the enthusiasm over at dallasmetropolis seems more tempered than it does here. I think there's just something about showing off and shoving stuff in other peoples' faces that's kind of a common human condition. This being a Houston forum, folks from Dallas love to come on here with unabridled excitement and basically brag about what Dallas has and Houston doesn't. The reverse probably would be true if dallasmetropolis had a decent Houston subforum.

Also, while Dallas people definitely make posts here that are too excited and/or too positive, Houston folks do just the opposite with negativity and unabashed criticism.

But in the end, all of that positive and negative crap put together makes a really entertaining and interesting subforum which is probably why there's so much more activity here than any other Outside Houston subforum.

  6. Knowing that they will find nothing but abuse here, they just keep coming back for more. I don't get it. Dallasboi might not be mature enough to understand, but since you already know the nature of Haif, and can predict the behavior, what's your excuse for coming to a forum you already know to be full of people who "never fail to take a swipe out of Dallas"? You know what you're in for before you post it. Makes no sense.

But, since you are inviting your fellow "dallas folks to tear apart the dumbasses on the HCC thread", we know why you really come here ND and it isn't because you're really interested in architecture. Like Dallasboi, you are a muckraker of the worst kind. Yes, I have posted an insensitive comment or two on Haif but I never start threads, or begin these debates, or invite my buddies to join me in "tearing dumbasses apart". Shame on you.

I admit, when I wrote my post, especially those last two lines, I let your post get to me too much, and I was pissed. But, it should be known that those last two lines were laced with sarcasm. As for the rest of the post, I stand by it, it's what I think goes on from time to time. Call me a muckraker or whatever the hell you want, but I still think I have a valid point. A lot of these comments go too far sometimes.

X, you seem to rip on dallas for a living on this subforum. That's why you got a warning not too long ago. Don't get me wrong, criticism from houston haifers is good, but for the love of god, just show us a little respect every once in a while. thats all I'm asking. Even though it's the internet, and none of us has to see anyone else's ugly face, it'll just help us take what you say more seriously instead of wanting to beat the crap out of you.

And for the record, I know that the HCC is more substantiated than this tower, and I think it would be f-ing awesome for downtown Houston. I admit that even though this is just a rendering and not an official announcement yet, it's still a sign of DT houston's further evolution and progress. And I know that's a great thing for the city and Texas overall.

  7. Regardless of the tower's chance of ever getting built (admittedly, slim to none anytime soon), and regardless of whatever dallasboi's true age might be, I think it was extremely naive of him to expect anything but trash talk and bad mouthing from haif. Houstonians on here never fail to take a swipe at Dallas, Dallasites, or their character. By creating a new thread overflowing with unfounded enthusiasm here on haif for these unannounced towers, dallasboi served up a hanging curveball right over the heart of the plate (a la the Rangers pitching staff) for the Houston crowd here to cream there pants over.

Now, to all the dallas folks out there, let's go tear apart the dumbasses on the Houston City Centre thread jumping outta their jocks for some ridiculous fantasty that has no shot in hell of getting built - in true haif spirit, of course.

  8. "It's always fun 'till someone gets hurt". I'll be nice and keep the venom spewing in check. Maybe that will "keep Houston classy" eh, ND?

Dude, it's all about subtlety really....the least offensive yet most poignant remarks/criticisms are those that aren't outright negative/derogatory. You gotta mix in the bad with at least a little of the good. Do that and you can say whatever the hell you want, and people will generally genuinely consider what you've got to say.

    Just my opinion man...

  9. At least your consistent, which is more than I can say for others.

Ideally, this is what I'd want in a candidate:

    Pro-choice

    is for the Death penalty

allow for hand guns, but is willing to ban assault rifles. (screw the NRA)

Continue with the war until it's won.

Knows how to maintain a budget.

Of course, I'm living in dream land. I know I won't agree with every candidate that's out there, but as long as he/she is able to do MOST of what I'd like.

    My ideal candidate:

Pro-life, in every sense of the word

    Anti death penalty

    Strong gun control

    Environmentally conscious

    Fiscally conservative

....so...I'm kinda screwed, cuz I don't ever see anyone like that comin along

  10. You just don't get it. I don't think Houston towers need any cheap lighting. So why would I spend time trying to create something that I feel is not only unnecessary, but nothing more than a cheap effect. A lot of people, including people who live outside of Houston, think Dallas' lit up skyscrapers look tacky. I've heard the Dallas skyline referred to a tacky many times over the years. Why would I want that for Houston? I like the night time skyline in Houston just fine. I don't get why anyone in Houston would be jealous of Dallas' skyline day or night.

All I can do is tell you that not everyone in Houston is jealous of little red white and blue lit low rises in Dallas. Evidently, some folks on this thread would like a building like this in Houston, but not me. If you choose to believe that everyone who is not impressed with lit buildings MUST be jealous, than you are delusional. No offense.

Are they all buzzing on the Dallas architecture forums over this little building? If so, why not post comments there so that you can all get each other off. You might find more objectional comments here, so be prepared the next time you post a photo of a silly looking building and expect everyone in Houston to be impressed. Believe it or not, there are many, many, many little lowrise towers in Houston. So don't come crying to me if I'm not impressed by a little building 250 miles away.

You said it yourself, it is just a 15 story building. So just relax, breathe, ignore what dallasboi said. and lay off the bashing. We realize you don't like Dallas' lighting, and that's fine. But if you keep going on about it, we'll realize there's less and less of a reason to read your posts and more of a reason to be concerned about your mental health.

Deal 'expected' for Goat Hill, former Baby Doe's site

    April 16th, 2007

A big change may soon be coming to the Dallas skyline. The owners of Goat Hill, the home to Baby Doe's Matchless Mine for three decades, are nearing a deal that would bring dramatic changes to the five acres adjacent to the booming Victory development. WFAA.com mobile journalist, MoJo, Aaron Chimbel, has learned that a zoning change has been requested and a sale could come soon after.

Technically, Goat Hill is not Victory, but it is just north of the area, and would have spectacular views of the development. Seeing as this thread has already meandered way the hell off topic, I figured posting this here wouldn't really hurt.
