  1. I'll buy a cheeseburger for the person that can give some insite as to what were the reasons for having them and or why they are now gone?

I rode in it in 1976. It was decommissioned to avoid safety hazards because of it's age. It was decided that it would not be replaced because their were already enough around the country.

The ride was pretty boring. Very, very, very slow!

  2. I'm starting to think we're the only one's that remember Farrell's. I'm really surprise because there was usually a line to get in. I had a birthday there once and they made a really big deal to make noise with drums and whistles and singing for my birthday. I had never had that much attention in public in my entire life. Farrell's made me feel special that day!

Rock candy of every color! That was soooo cooool when I was a kid! I had forgotten about that place with good pizza, ice cream, and a candy shop out of any kid's dreams! Cool one Enviromain.

  3. MOUNTAIN PARK was a place for kids...built on an artificial hill. It was right on the corner of 1-10 and 610...just about a mile south of Northwest Mall. Anyone else remember?

Nope, but I do remember the artificial ski mountain some crazy person or company made that was located near the intersection of 610 and Hwy 59S. I couldn't believe they would actually believe the ice would not melt! Hello? Texas heat! Funny.

  4. I agree, but a lot of people here are saying "THE EL Capitan". Which is repetitive, needless and unnecessarily redundant.

Just the same, the theater's name on its signage and in common usage was "Capitan". Not "El Capitan".

Why do you always stir up trouble? If you haven't noticed, Houston has a lot of Spanish heritage. There are ways to express your opinion without insulting others. Be nice, for goodness sake FilioScotia! This is an educational and productive forum for nice people. Without courtesy to others this cannot work!

  5. Does anyone have any pictures of the fountains in the Houston area?

Also, I can't remember the name of a fountain that I remember being built. It's in the Sharptown area in the middle of the street. This street served a short cut between streets. A business park surrounds it. The name may have changed now, but wondering about the original name.

    Thanks.

I don't know if Fountain View has a fountain, but that's a possibility.

Or, how about the fountain located on Savoy Dr. between Harwin and 59. I know it was drained for repairs at one time, but I do not know if it is still a working fountain. I'll look for a picture, but not sure if I can help you with that one.

  6. how irritating!

Sorry, was just trying to help you. I wasn't trying to discredit anyone. I just hit search images and this is what I got. And yes, I made a mistake in the past and wrote an apology to the webmaster. I can't help it if your friends photos are in a search engine. Maybe you should be mad at the image search engines.

    Good Day!

  7. Freakin' litterbugs.

John Wayne does not have to cry!!!

Constructively, Navtive Americans were not litter bugs. By burying their waste it would decompose faster and not be left to decay and be scavenged in a living environment. Guess what? Modern day humans do it too! We call them landfills!

Addressing the cache method: No different than placing your tools and more in your garage or food in your frige! Some caches were full of jerky and other preserved foods to rely on in poor-hunting periods like winter.

  8. Does anybody know if they are closing their doors? It would be an aweful shame to lose forever those cheese enchiladas in that wonderful beef chili sauce.

Rumor still has it that they could close their doors at any time. From what I have read, it's basically the long-time loyal customers that continue to support Felix's and campaine for open doors.

  9. Does anybody here attend the church in reference? It is now United, but when I was baptised there it was pretty basic. I noticed a building in the area of the former playground where we played. I was baptised in 1970. Was in MYF and sang in the chior. I have so many memories connected to this church.

Isn't that right down from St. Paul Presbyterian? Used to play basketball there after they rebuilt the courts.

  10. I was at the Hobby airport several days ago, and when I stopped at the Wendy's fast food place in the central concourse there, I saw a framed large black and white photo of what looks like an old Wendy's restaurant hanging there. (It is on the side wall to your right when you face the counter for ordering.) It looks like it was taken in the 70's, judging from the cars in the photo.

Haven't been into the Wendy's you are referring to, but I remember when Wendy's came to Houston. The one in Sharpstown opened in the 1970's and promoted 100% Beef hamburgers. It was located in the fast food strip on Fondren between SW Freway and Bellaire Blvd. Also included there was Jack in the Box, McDonald's, & Burger King.

  11. Those scary stories might have been Mystery Theater, hosted by EG Marshall. They were still making these from 1974 to 1982

Wow man! You nipped it right on the bud! Mystery Theater was what I used to listen to. Man those stories were scary!

I could not remember the name of that program. Thanks Poppahop for taking down memory road!

  12. This double-decker bus was built in 1946. This bus was originally named No.13 (JK 9111). It was rebuilt to an open-top version in 1961; was withdrawn before entering service in the season of 1968; sold to the Royal Coach Inn in Houston, Texas. It was painted red when Royal Coach Inn obtained it and then painted cream in 1969

This pic was taken at Churchdale Road garage, Eastbourne in Sussex, January 1962; after conversion to open-top and before entering service.

For those mech people who give a hoot:

    Chassis: Leyland PD1

Body: Originally East Lancs H56R double-deck bus bodies, rebuilt in the Corporation workshops in 1961-63 to Open-top O30/26R. Numbered in the third series of these double-decker buses, this was made from an batch of six.

PS - I obtained this info at http://www.skylineaviation.co.uk/buses/Ebrneot.html.

  13. The hotel was the Royal Coach, "affectionately" nicknamed the Royal Roach by those of us attending various sci-fi/comic conventions there in its waning years. :P Some of those suckers could have entered the costume contest.

Here is an interesting link. Check out the 3rd picture on the 1st row.

This pic is not to clear, but it's the Judy's at the Royal Coach Inn, Houston, Texas. Third pic down.
