  1. I may buy a house with a "Spanish Style" looking. The house faces north (on a east-west stree), but without one single window facing north (i.e. no window at the front side of the house). I like the inside of the house very much, but not so sure of the style. Plus, all bedrooms are due west. I was told that this is a "Spanish Style". Is it correct? I'm afraid that when it comes to selling, it may not be attractive to a lot of people. What do you all think? I've seen a lot of such style houses in Texas. Are they normally tough to sell?

  2. If the employee being relocated is still living in the home, they can negotiate the price and terms, but the relo company will sign the contract and take over from that point. If the home is vacant and has already been taken over by the relo company, then the relo owns the property and will handle the negotiations and sale. The employee being relocated usually has incentives to sell the home prior to the relo company taking over the house, so sometimes that would be a preferable situation.

    Thank you!

By the way, do you know what "R/P" stands for when people talking about zones, like "ABC Subdivision R/P"?

  3. Thank you FilioScotia!

I may try San Jacinto River. Have never been there...

The state says the bayous are not nearly as polluted as they once were, which means raw sewage and chemical wastes aren't dumped into them anymore -- at least not legally. AND, it helps to remember that only eleven years ago, a fully grown ocean-born manatee SOMEHOW managed to swim all the way up the Houston Ship Channel, and up Buffalo Bayou as far as the city sewage treatment plant at the 69th Street Bridge -- just a few miles from downtown Houston. She camped out there for days, apparently attracted to the warm treated waste-water outfalls from the sewage plant. Amazingly, she never suffered any ill effects from it, or from her swim up the channel and the bayou. Animal rescue people finally pulled her out of the bayou and moved her to Sea World in San Antonio.

So while the bayous are not considered "polluted" by state and local environmental officials, I think it's important to remember that bayou water is the rainfall and storm drain runoff from the entire county. Think about where that water has been, and all the grit, grime and god-knows-what it picked up before it drained into the bayou. I wouldn't go swimming in one of them, nor would I knowingly eat anything caught in one. But that's just me. You're on your own.

My favorite places for salt-water wade-fishing: Any place on the Gulf side of west Galveston Island, but I"m especially fond of West Galveston Island State Park and San Luis Pass at the southern tip of the island. I've caught some good sized Reds at both spots. Specks and drum are plentiful at San Luis Pass. For fresh-water, I like Deussen Park on Lake Houston, and the San Jacinto River just below the Dam. They're both close by and free.

  4. Gaywood is another neighborhood. South of Memorial, east of Wilcrest. The lots are large and the original homes were built in the 60's. Lots of good mods, if that is your thing. $300K and up. The thing is that these houses are being snapped up and torn down. McMansions are going up in their place and are selling for $800K to 1 Mil.

Yes, Gaywood is nice. But, I don't see anthing priced below $400K there. Even houses in Wilchester are priced at $400K+. I guess now is not the best time to buy, is it?

  5. If you can get inside of the Beltway and north of the Bayou, go for it. I'd hesitate about Dairy-Ashford. Strikes me as less stable.

The area is appreciating for two main reasons: 1) just about everything else is and 2) Energy Corridor employment center is growing, growing, growing.

If the energy companies start to lay off, as they did in the 80's, would that impact the property value in the area?

  6. Hello HAIF!

So excited to find this forum!

Currently I'm looking for a property in the Memorial area, close to Beltway 8. I've heard that the price has gone up since the beginning of this year. Is it true? Anybody knows why?

I've looked at the following subdivisions:

    Memorial Hollow

    Memorial Meadow

    Memorial Plaza

    Wilchester

    Nottingham

    Nottingham Forest

My question is that would you pay a premium for living inside the Beltway 8? Or would you prefer going further west to Diary Ashford for upgrades and a lower price? I know that the schools are a little bit different. Just wanted to hear your opinions.

    Thanks.
