  1. I meant.....we never should've had the Downtown tunnels...they've completely destroyed street life and I hope we get rid of them...

I just spent several days in Toronto staying downtown. They have a great tunnel system full of shops, services, and food courts.  Their tunnels are very similar to Houston in terms of structure and accessibility but they have a far more extensive number of businesses.  I wondered the same thing regarding street life but honestly I thought they had equal amounts on the street as they did under.  The big difference was the number of people living in downtown Toronto who used the tunnels as their primary method to get to and from places.  This was proven to me the one morning that I went down for a coffee in the tunnel at rush hour.  It was packed with people using it to commute to work. My opinion is that once more and more move downtown then this will increase the need for the tunnels even more and actually force more planning into how they should be utilized.

  2. What I'm not sure about on this is how these replace the current restrictions which require a 75% vote to "amend". They are posting on WH bulletin board that since this is neighborhood resident driven (vs being WHCA driven) that it only requires a 51% majority to "replace" the current restrictions with completely new restrictions per state law. If this is true then what is the purpose of the 75% written into the previous restrictions.

If you push hard enough, they will send a list of changes that they put together because enough were asking. There are quite a few changes but most serve to modernize or clarify. I personally do not agree with the fence, the vehicles/boats limitations, or the architectural submittal requirements because of vagueness for when they would be enforced and when they wouldn't. Like you said earlier, it becomes a neighbor vs neighbor of someone else deciding what they like or not.

I also didn't like that they rushed this out and then wanted to go door to door with a notary to collect signatures over the weekend. They did this before some of us had even seen the full document and certainly before they came clean on that this was more than the 3ft building line (which I approve of). Still seems that they hoped to push this thru without most realizing.

I'm not planning on supporting this initiative.

  3. Agreed that the knock on Greenwood has always been which schools it was zoned to. Also, even though you find some excellent quality, the homes were built (according to a neighbor that was living in area in early 70's) by a multitude of builders so you have to really look at each one individually. If you are looking for a great neighborhood with excellent schools, look just across 1960 to Huntwick. We have several friends living there and they love it because of the kid friendly environment and activities.

  4. I've always understood that the poisoned rats go to water. It doesn't kill them right away but instead kills them later after they have vacated the premises in search of some water to quench their thirst. And I'm sure there is a "Rat-ologist" or other expert on the BB that can confirm this, but this has worked for us at our place we have in the country where the mice seemed to always find a way in. Haven't seen evidence in several years now that we use the blocks.

On another note, I'm glad the lab worked out and is such a defender of the property. Seems I recall you trying to find a home for a stray a couple years back but sounds like it has worked well.

  5. I'm a fan of d-con rat poison. Because I have 3 dogs, I've bought the blocks that I can put behind the fridge or in the cabinets. Its worked in the past fairly quickly (days) and then I can just throw away the blocks without worrying about cleaning up residual poisons. You also get to see if they eat the poison. You just have to make sure you go into the kitchen before the dogs to make sure one of your supersized rats hasn't used the block as a soccer ball. I used for mice and they nibbled on blocks but never moved them.

  6. To get the motorcycle endorsement now, you have to take the 2 day safety course (mine was really 1 1/2 days as we finished by 11 am on Sunday). You get a certificate that certifies you completed the course and this certificate takes the place of the drivers portion of DPS certification. You still have to take the written test at the DPS office. I don't remember how many questions but by the time you take the course and if you read the book once it will be pretty common sense. Seems like there were a couple of questions that could have tricked you but you could miss several and still pass so they didn't matter.

If you have never had a bike then the course might be good practice as it is a smaller motorcycle. Once you ride that for 2 days then the scooter would be easy. If you have been riding then I'd just go take the test at DPS and take the course whenver you decide to move up to the bigger bike.

  7. Kinkaid has 28 points left,with 346 total score

    Hwy6 has 86, 324

    Aggie has 66, 305

    20th Street has 117, 280

    Bob has 95, 231

Based on 20th Street picks left, he might catch Hwy 6 based on all but VA Tech & Nevada being opposite picks. I didn't look at every possibility but it looks like Kinkaid and I either run out of points or have too many similar picks to Hwy 6 to beat him and his points that he will gain on similar picks. Sorry Bob but just too far out.

Guess since I'm out I can just focus on Cotton Bowl.

  8. I'm registered. Took me a few minutes because Aggie92 belongs to someone else but when you enter it lets you name the entry so I could keep it the same.

I'm not sure about the confidence selection. Seems like that takes all of the luck out of it and makes this more of a skilled selection. Other words....., I might have to think!

  9. The only thing that is mysterious is why you think you can jump in to this and claim some sort of authority on the issue when it is clear that you know nothing about the traffic issue.

I never claimed being an authority as YOU claim I was attempting to be - I was rehashing what others have posted over 27 pages and NOT making my own claims or attempting to give information about traffic studies. And how do you know that I don't know about the traffic issue? I might just be a traffic engineer - I'm not nor claim to be. However, I do live near by and drive Yale regularly along with Heights so I'm as much an expert as most on this forum.

You need to relax a little and realize that this is a bulletin board forum and is used by many of us to stay informed or entertained and quit attacking.

  10. The call that most were complaining was the late hit on QB by the Nebraska DB which gave A&M a first down that led to the winning field goal. My opinion was that it was not really all that late of a hit. However, it did look like the DB lowered his head which made the hit look worse and probably should have been called for it. Regarding the other calls, I don't recall any others that weren't well deserved as Nebraska was not playing smart. Nebraska is good but I'm glad we didn't let them roll thru the Big 12 on their way out.

  11. It's obnoxious but somewhat entertaining. I look forward each evening when I log in to seeing what new posts are in this section to see what new "ideas" that s3mh can come up with to tell all of us how our lives will never be the same. I just don't want to go back thru 27 pages but it would be great to roll together all of the "ideas" and see how they have continued to evolve - especially these mysterious traffic counts that went from 7-8000 to now more than 22,000 per day for a supercenter. And now this statement about being incompatible for an area that was a steel mill and not even in the Heights. Just always entertaining.

  12. Living in Woodland Heights prior to and after the construction of Target, my opinion is that the traffic hasn't changed and the traffic within Woodland Heights is still minimal. I go to Target all the time and regularly use Watson/Sawyer/Taylor for cut-thrus and I can't remember ever waiting in any significant traffic.

  13. Was looking for something else and came across this old post. Not sure if it helps but I've had my Emerson fan outside for a year now mounted under our pergola exposed to rain and sun. It was rated for direct rain exposure and has held up well. I couldn't find the exact model in my quick search but here is a link to the website
