  1. Something really irritates me about HEB. I do not appreciate being stopped as I travel down Fry road to the Grand Parkway in front of HEB. The cops directing traffic let car after car come out of the parking lot and in front of me. I understand the business is trying to create an "easy in" and "easy out" atmosphere for their customers. I just don't like waiting in line while all these cars are let out because I do feel like I have the right of way as I am traveling down the main street (Fry). HEB doesn't respect my time. Am I over-reacting or just having a bad day?

  2. i went here and i find it to be ugly. is it the joke? what where them thinking when they built this? everything seems to be bad in katy.

for me i live in the woodlands. it is so pretty. i am lucky because it is so much better. i am sorry but you know it.

i dont like the look and feelings of lacentera either, what a joke! woodlands so much better

Now where did you go? Them thinking you should stay in pretty land.

  3. We tried Wings & Rings this weekend. I was a bit disappointed with the food. The burgers were over done and the wings were average at best. The wait staff was your typical Katy high schooler and our waiter had that "deer in the head lights" look to him. No problem though as it is a new place with new employees. I'll probably give them another try because I really want to support the local establishments.

I know what you mean by the "deer in the headlights" look by the wait staff. We went to Wings & Rings about 2 weeks ago for the first time. My wife requested a lime for her coke and the waitress responded that she never heard of that before. Then she promptly handed us a lime slice with her bare hands. The first thing I saw as I opened the door to the restaurant was the "stuffed" animal vending machine game. It's right next to the entrance. The night we went, there was a table with about 3 couples that let their children run wild back and forth to the games (over and over again). Just wasn't a pleasant experience our first go round. We actually liked the "Wings" place located off the Katy Freeway next to the Texas Roadhouse and Slick Willies.

I do like how the Villigio is coming along. We go to Berryhills all the time and enjoy it.

  4. The landlord would not renew their contract to keep the old location. I heard that through the grapevine. Sounds like restaurant owner and landlord didn't get along or that landlord just had other plans with the building.

  5. We are going to be moving to the Katy area and I have some questions for those of you who are in the know.

If you had to choose between Cinco Ranch High School and Seven Lakes High School which would you choose?

Is there a Jr. High we should stay away from?

Is there a problem with Seven Lakes H.S.? The reason I ask this question is we know some people who are moving so their kids won't have to go to Seven Lakes and will go to Cinco Ranch. I have also noticed that 7 out of 8 houses for sale in Cinco Ranch feed into Seven Lakes High School.

What have you heard? What has been your experience?

    Thanks!

My older son graduated from Cinco and my youngest son currently goes to Seven Lakes. Both are great schools to get an education. The big difference is Cinco is more established and Seven Lakes is "up and coming". This is the first year that Seven Lakes will have a graduation class. We noticed a more established tradition at Cinco in the band program vs Seven Lakes which is constantly growing. Seven Lakes made the State Marching Band contest this year which was a big accomplishment. The Friday night football games at Cinco included many more wins as Seven Lakes won their very first varsity football game this year.

My older son seemed to enjoy Cinco and it did prepare him well for college as he is doing very good at his university.

My youngest son also enjoys Seven Lakes and his high school experience.

If I were just moving to the area either school is fine. One advantage Seven Lakes might have is that their are many new students to the area because of the incredible growth in the area. Other kids moving to the area would have that in common. I could of said the same thing about Cinco Ranch only a few years ago.

  6. KatyGuy, what if your son got a ticket for running a redlight, but it was only "a little red" or did a "California roll" through a stop sign in your neighborhood ? What if his insurance had expire 3 days earlier, and you didn't have a renewal ? Would you feel the same way ? When do you consider it worthy of a ticket ?

    I'm just sayin.

My son is using this ticket as a learning experience. He had to go to the courthouse and pay $90 for the option of defensive driving. He had to pay another $12 to get his motor vehicle driving record sent. He now has to pay to take defensive driving and spend probably another 6 hours taking it. He did not run a "little red light".... he did not do a "California roll" through a stop sign....his insurance is up to date..... The situation is that he was going 45 in a 40 which was the flow of traffic..... he was stopped by city police not campus police.... the city was lubbock texas..... I feel that them stopping him going 45 in a 40 was just a bit excessive..... I guess there is a first time for everything.... Welcome to life's little hassles....

  7. Yes...it is excessive...but there's no revenue assoicated with a warning.

Court date? He should be able to just call and get defensive driving.

The ticket indicates he has 12 days to go to court. I know he probably has the defensive driving option. I agree that the ticket is a bit excessive. Some people might think differently. It just upsets me and I wanted to vent.

  8. My very responsible son who has been driving for 3 years (and has a perfect driving record) was pulled over today (for the first time) and given a speeding ticket at college. He was going 45 in a 40. Give me a break. Am I wrong or should he have received a warning? He has a 3.4 GPA his freshman year in college because of his hard work and now he has to worry about a court date. Am I just being an over-protective parent..... Is this just cause for a "warning" or does he deserve his speeding ticket? Anyone care to comment?

  9. How come prices are different for various HEB, Kroger, etc stores around town? The prices at McDonalds, Wendys, etc are the same, but why is it so different for the same grocery stores.

Most chains divide their stores up in different zones for various reasons (demographics etc). They tend to have different price zones (different competition, demographics, real estate prices and the cost of doing business). Therefore you see different prices. What's sad is that you see some of the highest prices in the poorest areas of town.

  10. it's Pflugerville...and unfortunately my dad's going to be stuck at the game not knowing who to cheer for, we live in katy, but his fiance's daughter goes to PHS :P I'm sure he'll be rooting for Pflugerville if he knows what's best!

Congratulations to the State champion Katy Tigers..... What an awesome game.....

  11. Anyone checked this place out yet? It appears to be a Chuck E. Cheese type place.

    http://www.rocketcityfun.com

My son and I walked in the entrance this weekend to see what it was all about.... Lot's of games.... did remind me alot like Chuckee Cheese..... I was hoping it would be more like Jillians..... what caught my eyes was a banner that says 100ft buffet.....it did have a large section of tables in the food area..... this place would be great for families with younger kids.... 2-8 yrs of age.... just my take on it

We never really walked in....only windowed shopped with my 14yr old.....

  12. My friend just texted me and said that Katy is up 35-0 on Clements! I smell a state title this year.
Does this really deserve it's own thread?
Does this really deserve it's own thread?
Just kidding!!!! Go Tigers.... Make Katy Proud!
  13. Well, just last weekend, me and my friends ate at IHOP on Fry Road at about 2:30 AM. Nothing beats pancakes, eggs, and sausage at almost 3 AM. We had just came back from a party. I think being open 24 hours can work in the Seven Meadows area. Especially with the amount of parties around there and teens leaving looking for somewhere to eat.

A bunch of wild party animals looking for a 3am meal on the weekend. Just what we need in our area. Who's going to support the Sun-Thurs 3am business?

  14. I've seen a couple of different versions of that plotplan; one with the townhomes oriented left/right and one up/down.

I think that no one wants to be the first to risk their capital 'proving' that townhomes (especially $300K ones) will sell in that area. IIRC, the plan for La Centerra II showed condos along the back; those have been replaced in later renderings with retail.

Or maybe they're just waiting to build out the shopping center before starting on the residential - B)

Someone told me that they decided against building the townhomes at Villigio. Does anyone know if they are still planning to build these townhomes at the Villigio?

  15. What is interesting is that this Denny's will not be a free standing building. It is going on the end of the stip in a 3,918 sq ft space.

Man, we thought traffic was bad now, just wait until Denny's, Baskin Robbins, and the fast food places open....

I find it interesting that Denny's plans to be open 24 hours. Who is going to eat at 3 in the morning in the middle of Seven Lakes/Grand Lakes? I would expect a 24 hour restaurant to be off an interstate highway.

  16. I want to do as much research as I can into the West Oaks area. I am looking to buy there in about a year, and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience or insight into this area. Subdivisions include:

    1) Westheimer Place (Sec. 3)

    2) Clayton Trace

    3) Oak Park trails (Patio homes)

    4) Timbergate

Has anyone ever lived here? What are some things I need to know or watch out for? How are their HOA's? Home quality? Neighborhood, etc.

Ideally, I would LOVE to see new construction close to that area, (not nec. Katy but West Oaks). Does anyone know if anything is planned? Can anyone give me any insight? THANKS!

One observation is the WestOaks mall itself. The last time I was there it seemed like the mall had many stores that closed.... It was like the mall wasn't doing very well. That would not be a good sign to me about what the future might be like in the mall or the area. When I look at an area, I try to forecast what it would be like in 5 to 10 years from now.

  17. I have an unconfirmed report that a BIG LOTS! is being planned in the same shopping center as Palais Royal and H.E.B. Im not entirely sure that a "BIG LOTS" would go well in this shopping center. More to come later......... :blink:4.jpg

Sounds to me like your unconfirmed report is "gossip". It doesn't make sense to have a BIG LOTS. The demographics won't support a BIG LOTS. I can't see the BIG LOTS executives or the shopping center developers putting in a location there. It doesn't make sense.

  18. I hope it's better than the other crap they have over there. Do they do any business over there? I went to Chang's a couple times and the food was decent but the service really sucks. That whole area look like a failure.

Texas Roadhouse reminds me of the movie "Field of Dreams"........ "If we build it, they will come" ................ Texas Roadhouse will bring them in..... Is the parking lot big enough?...... Slick Willies and Cold Stone should see a jump in their business due to Texas Roadhouse......

  19. I'll gladly pay more for better customer service. Krogers Customer service is ____. Every time I go in there they only have about 2 checkers open and one of those is a 15 items or less. They also rarely have more than 1 person working the deli counter and they are constantly blocking aisles with their back stock. Kroger's lost my business for good. And Walmat, well, its Walmart.

I love the HEB store at Fry/Grand Parkway..... It's a first class store.... Always have lots of business for a reason... You walk in a can chose great food to go..... you can walk in further and see all the different depts.....someone is always demonstrating a new recipe..... I can buy whatever I want.... so much selection.... There is a reason it is alway crowded..... The amenities..... the customer service...
