For what it's worth, there was a Jamail's on Northpark Dr. in Kingwood from the late 1970s until the mid-1990s. It became a Holiday Foods/IGA after that and is now a Gold's Gym. Was never a "fancy" grocery store, but definitely catered to the local market. My mom knew the sackers by name and the bakery would give kids 10 and under a free cookie.

i know i'm really more of a lurker here, but put me in the newly single category.

What caught my eye were the ESPN and Fox Sports reports. Note that Houston wasn't even mentioned as a possible location. It sounds H-Town isn't considered a possibility by the national news affiliates, and Kansas City is the runaway.
People said the same thing in 1999 about us getting an NFL team over Los Angeles.

In 2008, Houston will be hosting the Sweet 16/Elite 8 games of the men's NCAA Tourney on a friday/sunday rotation. Having the hotel inside the Astrodome would be a HUGE plus. It will certainly help the city in attempts to lure the Final Four (men's and women's) to Reliant Park.
Reliant Stadium is hosting the men's Final Four in 2011.

610 guys were talking about how the Predators might be the next NHL team on the market. They said they're in first place right now too.
Let's keep an eye on that
Since Nashville wound up with our football team, it would only be fair to take their hockey team.

U brought up a good point. Say the Astrodome does go through as a hotel. Why can't there be underground parking in Reliant Park? Wasn't part of the issue with the Texans a ramp for parking in the Dome? They could have a few underground event parking places for Reliant Center, the Dome Hotel, and perhaps for the Texans as well under the current parking spaces. And STILL use the surface lots for parking/tailgate parties.
After that, sell the parking spaces across the street from Reliant Stadium to another urban development entrepeneuer to get some or most of the money back for the new parking construction.
Couldn't that work?
Wouldn't it be ridiculously expensive to add underground parking at this point?

What does this have to do with Houston?

There is a proper abbreviation for Speedway, although I can't remember the precise mix of letters.
If I remember correctly, it's Spdwy.

seems like it's right across the street from the bishop's palace.

I was told this by an insider on Friday. Can anyone verify? If this is true, what happens next?
Looks like bankruptcy isn't very far off.

It is supposed to be really impressive, like nothing you would have ever thought to be in a Wal-Mart (sushi?). I really wished Wal-Mart with all there money and new stores opening would adopt it. Plano is SO lucky to get this.
I went this summer and was really not all that impressed. You can tell it's different from regular Wal-Mart Supercenters in other parts of the country, but it still looks like a Wal-Mart. The signage is a bit different, and the skylights are nice, but it really is no big deal. A new Wal-Mart opened in Lubbock at the intersection of Ave. Q and 4th Street, and they used the same signange.

which way do you go? your pics remind me of when i take 36.

Didn't Texas Tech build a new stadium a not to long ago.
Nah, we've just done some major renovations in the last 5 years. There were plans to add another 10,000 seats, but I think they've been scaled back considerably.

I'm surprised more public spaces don't sell their names. Why not malls?
Discover Mills is a 1.2 million square foot mall in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and is named after the Discover Card.

Hooters should look into being the namesake for the new Dynamo stadium.
Agreed.

Only surprises for me were Kingwood, and Tiki Island.
Well there are two zip codes in Kingwood, 77339 and 77345. 77339 is closer to 59 and contains most of the smaller houses in Kingwood, while 77345 is the "back" of Kingwood and contains all the newer developments and the $1 million+ homes. Only 77345 made the list.

So, where will I shop? Neimans, Saks, Nordstroms are great stores but too pricey for me on a regular basis. Penneys and Khols don't carry decent merchandise...so what's left?
Sears?
