I blame Houston's, and Texas' image, or lack thereof on Hollywood. I can name a (major) movie or TV series in which just about every other major American city has been given exposure. It's skyline is shown nicely and you get good shots of the city throughout the show. However when Texas is in a movie it's ALWAYS the same old ignorant stereotypes that are played out... a small dusty town where all the kids are dreaming of "getting out" and starting a better life (usually California) and the entire town shuts down for the local high school football game. It bothers me to know end that of all the medical shows on TV, not ONE is set in the largest medical center on Earth! Houston does have an image problem and it's the lack of one other than the one Hollywood puts out. The sad thing is most people base 85% of their opinions based on what they see or hear on TV. That's how you get so many people who detest Houston and have never set foot here. I am comfortable in my own skin, love this city for all it is (good and bad) as I am born and bread here, but working on projecting a better image can only help the city. It dosent mean we have to sell out or try to become a tourist trap. It just means educating the rest of the country on what makes Houston so great.

Question for HAIF enthusiasts. 

A friend was telling me about this night club located in the Texas Medical Center called Copa Cabana located at 7025 South Main Street.  This confused me because there is a similar-named club called Copacabana at 8150 South Main Street. Were there two different locations for Copa Cabana/Copacabana? Was someone wrong and had the wrong business name or address?

I absolutly detest GRB! I think it is the ugliest thing in Houston (and that is saying something!). I whish they would/could give it a facelift to make it look more like a world class venue. I know that is unlikely since it was recently renovated with the same ugly ass exterior, but one can dream.

So...has there been ANY news on this thing or has it been decided that this was a pipe dream?

Im sorry Im of the beleif that it is easier to build the big things and phase in the small things as opposed to the opposite.

Movies without the typical stereotypes and actually showcase our skyline like the other cities you mentioned.

If there is a God in heaven he will awnser my prayers and let this get built to it's original plans. Nothing scrapped or downsized. This is the project in Houston I am most excited about. I dont care if they stop everything else, just please let this one get built right!

wxman, can u explain how Alicia being a smaller storm made it stronger. I think what you were saying is that since it was smaller it was able to sustain a low pressure pretty much from the eye to the outer bands and since Ike was so large it did not have a low a pressure on the outer bands. Also is it true that Hurricane are a necessary evil as they transfer heat from one place to another thus sort of regulating global tempature? Also, what in the hell would make you secretly wish for a Hurricane to strike?

I'm quite fond of the Galleria; it's just that Houston deserves something else after 38 years.

China's Olympic Stadium or "Birds Nest" and their Aquatic Center are two of the most stunning works of arcitecture I have ever seen.

Heading North on 610 is already an awesome sight. Especially once you go up over the bridge that crosses 59. Can you imagine the sight if this is a go and in the coming years of seeing Transco (will never be able to call it Williams), Deyaar, and the Ritz of Blvd Place?!?

You totally missed my point. I said that since I dont care about other cities its seems that things happen faster there than here.

Why do things take so long to get off the ground here?!?!? Its driving me crazy! Seems like other cities get proposals,renderings, financing and then break ground within a year. Maybe I dont care about other cities and is why it seems to take so long here. I do hope that Discovery is not a pipe dream and gets going soon.

Let's get High Speed rail to IAH, Hobby, and Galveston before we start talking about rail to N.O. I would love to see the Texas Triangle develop a rail service. Oh, and if that plan were to go through as is, Houston would get f$@*ed as it does with everything else on a national level.

I have a question. I hope that you guys (and/or gals) will forgive my obvious ignornace towards mass transit planning and just humor me for a moment. Why cant they just go ahead and build the system all at once and just get it over with. The longer they wait the more Houston will fall behind the curve in it's mass transit options...especially with the regions expected population growth in the coming years. Also, wouldn't it be cheaper to do it now while it will cost 1 billion (just a random number I picked for all phases to be done now) instead of waiting a few years and it costing 1.8 billion by then?

Does anyone know the rent prices for this place? Im kind of intrested.

^^^ I expect to come here tomorrow and find that DG is scrapped because of cost overruns and Embassy pulls out, along with Main Place, HP an they are even going to stop working on I 10! Tomorrows crude oil price will be 50 cents a barrell!
