  1. I can remember Main Street Houston as a youth. that would be around 1955. All Christmas shopping would be done downtown before the malls were invented. Sakowitz, battlesteins, foleys. Every Christmas there would be singing and just the Christmas spirit, but the neatest things I liked were Princess Drive Inn and Simpson's Diner. Simpsons had this smell of home made food. The smell of fresh coffee and bacon frying. Since I was from Baytown my Mother drove to Houston to do our shopping and we always went to Simpsons for a light meal or we would go to Princess Drive inn for a Chicken Fried Steak Basket. Man o man. Houston Main Street is not the same any more unfortunately. The great theatres and just the main Hub of Houston. I will always have those memories in my heart. .
