According to a recent article in the Galveston Daily News, the manager of a hotel on 61st Street in Galveston claims the hotel's proximity to [1] a recycling plant and [2] a homeless encampment is making it difficult to attract paying guests to the hotel. To be specific, he states the noise from the recycling plant, and the proximity to homeless people taking showers (presumably in an outdoor area visible to the motel guests) causes auditory and visual disturbances to his guests and otherwise makes it more difficult to attract guests.
Interestingly, the guest comments posted online have many complaints about poor service and inadequate facility maintenance, but do not mention off-property noise or nudity problems.
