Who is staying up all night?
The noise will make sure of it. Hard to sleep with the sound of toppling trees.
-
From the main thread, taken by me:
-
You're seein this with your own eyes or from reports? crazy
I took the pictures, they're my neighbors. Us foolhardy downtowners standing up for the God-given right to be crazy!
-
Trees toppling downtown. Residents running around on street posing for pictures. Hope the glass on Chase Tower holds.
-
Why does this stuff always happen on Fridays? Allison... Rita... now Ike.
Hmmm.....
An excuse to party. Speaking of which, I'll check up on my fellow drunk residents... they've moved down to the community room, it got crazy on the garage roof.
-
Anyone in the downtown Houston area? How is it? Still ok in Spring...heavy wind
Downtown is doing fine. Moderate wind, moderate rain, nothing special yet. Power, water, and cable all up and going.
-
Utilities DT should be fine, right? I don't remember if the power/water went out in downtown during Alicia, just all the glass everywhere.
-
I was drinking on the parking garage roof with a bunch of neighbors here at the Rice. We're all batshit crazy. It's windy up there.
-
Let's not forget our tax money going toward road maintenance. Roads are subsidized just like transit, except the bill's a lot higher. I never understood pro-highway people that argue on a tax basis... concrete is expensive.
-
The Rice is hosting a hurricane party tomorrow night. I wonder if we'll get any Kirin from Azuma, that's my storm drink there.
-
Opportunity cost isn't that bad once you balance out the positive with the negative. The flip side of longer commute times is opportunity to rest, read, or work; and the reduction in stress from driving in traffic.
Transit is great when applied correctly. It's impossible to wean a city like Houston off automobiles, nor is that a desirable outcome.
-
The new scheme is wonderful. I live DT and can live without morons going down Travis at 60mph trying to catch all the greens.
-
Can't think of any right now. Nothing beats the 1960/249 intersection of yore.
-
Yeah, from 610 in it's just normal main street.
How's the traffic at that light in the mornings?
-
Awesome! What a great idea. I also think a bike-rental-sharing program like they have in Paris would work great at Rice and UH. I have a bunch of pictures of the bike rental stations in Paris; I'll post them when I have more time...
Rice, yes. UH, maybe in 10 years.

That's a bummer. It sure doesn't look like two months' worth of work. Phrasing may be key here -- I'm 99% certain the westbound mainlanes will open before the new HOV facility.
-
Within a couple weeks, by the looks of it.

I should've stuck with an architecture major back in college, if only I knew people get paid oodles to design this ____.
-
Just think of it - the world's largest tiki torch. Houston would finally have the landmark it deserves.
Now they just need to pipe over a few refinery flares.
-
Free market - variable-priced tollways are a step toward that.
Corporations - no. I don't want my freeways named after shampoo and dog food.

Man stop playing of course the thing I got from the email is the exact wording and plus I have evidence check out this site ok the thing will say something like it supposed to be done by 2009 but if you look at the status it is saying that it is on hold meaning that this construction is not cancelled just delayed because of bank restrictions and permits and should be back to reconstruction by winter 2008.
Here the site saying the status is on hold.

Calm down, I was joking about the statement having funky grammar and not being very professional in tone.
-
how old are you?
There are family and friends, people that remember when it opened.
-
What do you mean like there are english speakers working on this project you know not just asian speakers and this is true I actually talked to this person for realz.
Oh, I thought that was her exact wording.

^^^ I take it that you are not fond of the Galleria and it's ice rink.
I'm quite fond of the Galleria; it's just that Houston deserves something else after 38 years.
