  1. Thanks for the suggestions (and keep 'em coming!) I noticed that there are some additional trails in and around Addicks Reservoir that continue west of Terry Hershey park (just west of Highway 6). Unfortunately the trail switches from asphalt to gravel here, so probably just mountain biking at this point. Also, I used to run the trails along Buffalo Bayou between downtown and Shepherd, i.e. along Allen Parkway and Memorial. There are some bikers here, but the trail, at least a couple of years ago, was torn up and uneven in spots and didn't seem ideal for bikers. Any chance they've cleaned up this area? And, I noticed there's a long trail along Braes Bayou. The Harris County Precinct 3 web site says the hike / bike trail begins near Gessner and goes all the way to McGregor Park near U of H. That'd be fun to take on some weekend! So apparently the Houston bayous are good for something. Here's hoping that City / County officials continue to restore these areas to provide recreational activities such as hiking and biking trails.
  2. Anyone got any suggestions for good hike / bike trails around town? Just bought a bike recently, and took it through the Terry Hershey park, which runs along Buffalo Bayou between Beltway 8 and Highway 6. This is a great park (long, well-maintained trails with some actual up-and-down terrain) that I didn't know much about before. Any other "hidden gems" out there?
  3. What Bush and Cheney did and said leading up to the Iraq war, the lies and mistruths they propogated, are impeachable offenses in my opinion. Not only is there no discussion at all of impeachment, but they're ahead in polls now. Like Michael Moore said in his Oscar speech, "we live in fictitious times..." Kerry by default.
  4. Great pictures and discussions here! New Orleans has a place in my heart, and it's tough to say that about Houston. The argument seems to be one of practicality (Houston) versus mystery and beauty (New Orleans). You both win.
  5. A friend of mine who works downtown says someone gave him a flier for a new high rise apartment at 230 West Alabama. This is building that used to be called The Executive House apartments, and I used to live there before they kicked everyone out for renovations. Anyone else seen these fliers? Know what they're calling this building now? Know what they're charging for rent? I'm sure it'll be a cleaner, better maintained building with much, much higher rents. The views, which are outstanding, probably won't change much...
  6. Are y'all talking about the SW or NE corner of the Richmond/Montrose intersection? I'm out of that area now, so I'm not up to date on recent developments. The NE corner Shell station was one of the most reliable auto repairs shops I've ever used. I knew I could trust those guys when I took my car there (frequently). Hopefully they're still going strong. As far as the convenient store on the SW corner, it always seemed to do brisk business, not sure why it would close down, other than rising rents...
