Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I am surprised at how close it is to the adjacent building (Hogg). If those windows are residential units (as opposed to say, an interior hallway, the value of those units has to be pretty much destroyed as they will be looking straight into what I imagine is a parking garage!
Hogg Palace is more or less an Airbnb style hotel at this point. You can find a bunch of the apartments for rent on sonder. As for the view, I'm betting you're right! Depending on the height of the garage, those windows are going to get a lot of privacy or a close up view of the Preston's pool deck.

I might be subject to recency bias in my opinion of the typical projects Gensler peforms, at least from my anecdotal standpoint. I'm not trying to convey theyre snobby, I apologize-- that wasnt my intent. I guess every time I've worked with Gensler its typically a huge multi-national firm as the owner. Hopefully thats not enough to doxx me ; ). That's why i'm generally surprised they would go for and win the bid for a parking garage, even one that's automated. My only thought would be that something else is attached to this project that hasnt been revealed yet. Alternatively, perhaps Gensler just has a lot of experience with this automated garages in other markets and thats why they won.
If this is a Phase 1 garage and Phase 2 tower project, Gensler has direct experience a few blocks away from designing the One Market Square garage (Minus the automated parking portion). I'm armchair speculating with you that there is a Phase two of some sort, and it'll probably beat One Market Square to completion at this point. 😉

The Crystal Ballroom at The Rice may suit your needs. I don't know if it's "unique" because I see weddings and events there weekly, but that could be due to my proximity to it.

It's basically a long-ass kiosk that makes a coffee when you order it. They have one on the mezzanine level of the George R. Brown near the Marriott skywalk. I'm not sure if it's any good, but there was a line of people waiting to pay tribute to their coffee-serving robotic overlord.

Here's a night time mid-dogwalk cellphone snap shot. I was surprised the top floor appears very much in use still. I figured it was storage, but it looks to be some kind of office too. You could see a computer screen or TV and people moving around. It must be bizarre staring out of those old arched windows in to the back side of cladding. Wish I had taken the time to get better picture, but the dog had business up the street.
This also solves the clock mystery. It doesn't look like the hands have moved .

That is a lovely rendering.
Maybe someday it will actually look that way.
(and I don't care how much of a specialty item that light may be. It's been two months. Time for them to get on the ball!)That's a drone shot, not a rendering. Probably a composite.

A small thing, but did anyone notice if the clock still was working?
I was wondering the same thing. The timestamps on my photos are between 5:12 to 5:15 pm, so if we know when other people took photos we could figure out if the hands moved at all.

Hines uses a company using multiple pictures and video drones to verify the contractors are doing what the blueprints specify.

When I previously worked for a General Contractor here in Houston they used daily/weekly drone flights, and a Ricoh 360 cam with Holobuilder to document job progress.

The drawings look great, and it really shows just how much space is going to be available for lease for retail/food. Seems like a good amount of space.
Its just funny how these developers are seemingly taking advantage of the clientele that frequent the arts district, when alot of HAIF'ers might have thought it was obvious. With the Jones plaza reno, you'll have two greener spaces where they used to be none back in the early 2000's, and an incredible amount of food options with the newly opened food halls. If you're someone moving to Houston with a good amount of disposable income and a preference for urban living, this development and some of the others around it would probably be near the top of the list. You have the Met nearby for exercise, the parks/green spaces, the food, and new HEB that opens tomorrow on Washington. You could...actually live in, and enjoy, that area without having to travel too far for day-to-day needs, which is something I don''t think I could have said in 2005.
Shhhhhhh! Don't say this too loud. I think I can hear my rent going up! Kidding aside, all of this development near Market Square Park and the surrounding is great! This is also a stone's throw from POST HTX, and the whatever edible things end up in the Lyric Center garage retail space.

I'm not sure if it's been linked before; but the Houston Public Library archive has a ton of interesting old photos.
Here's an example:

This is being designed to flood, right?
Yeah it's supposed to be, and it seemed to fair pretty well. I ran by today and the lights were on inside the building. I was impressed by that even though it's still a very bare bones construction site. Honestly I'm pretty impressed by how the majority of the trail lighting fairs along Buffalo Bayou too. Most of that gets some level of submerged a few times a year.

I haven't been paying attention to see if people are on site, but I know It's further along than the photos above. I'll snap some updated photos when I walk the dog by there today or tomorrow.
Edit: I just noticed those photos are from last friday. It's about that far I guess.
