  1. I would...but I'm not sure they let folks with the last name Jones into places like that any more. It causes too much one-upmanship with the neighbors. You'd have to change your last name.

We've seen a couple black professionals post on this forum that they're not always made to feel welcome in predominantly white communities. For example, a black family who lives in Champions recently posted that when other residents see a black face, they start talking about how the neighborhood is going downhill. I've seen community parties where some whites were avoiding the few blacks in the room, and even whispering racist comments about them. I've heard black friends living in white neighborhoods tell me similar unfortunate stories.

It must be that way everywhere then.

Most neighborhoods are pretty mixed anymore. I would think you would have to get into a neighborhood where nothing costs less than $250k or $300k to see a scenario where an entire block is nothing but white people if you could even see that still. Plenty of "minorities" have money also.

I wasn't too concerned about race when scoping out neighborhood before we moved. I just wanted to find a neighborhood with working professional type people. I did, and just about every race is covered on my short street. No issues.

  2. So, basically, what is the best neighborhood? Doesn't sound like racial composition or attitudes have much at all to do with it.

Exactly. Why would somebody who is a minority need to live in a neighborhood with other minorities? Does this cut one way? What would be the reaction if somebody posted up saying they were looking for a neighborhood with as few minorities as possible.

You don't mean minority anyway. Just name the race you want to see as neighbors. Minority actual includes all woman as well as various races.

  3. Actually he works at 59 South and the Beltway. I see the northbound Beltway traffic in the evenings and it's not too pretty so I guess he's going to have to deal with that.

I'm just sick and tired of putting 100 miles on my car everyday and I guess this is the trade off I'll have to live with. Less miles and tolls, but potentially the same time on the road.

No way you can make it there in 40 minutes from cypress on a weekday morning.

  4. My husband and I are actually thinking about buying a home in this community. We are outdoorsy type people and the neighborhood really appeals to us. I work close to the West Belt and I-10 and he works at the West Belt and 59. But, we live in League City so we are used to the long drives but want to cut it down. Can anyone give me an idea of how long they think it would take me/us to get to work from Bridgeland if we left around 6AM or 6:30? What about back roads - are they just as bad as 290? 529? Clay Road? West Road? Any feedback would be appreciated!

The back roads are just as bad. Don't forget west little york and keith harrow. There is a HUGE difference between 6:30 and 6:00am. To get to the west belt and i-10 at 6:30 am I would estimate at least an hour. Most the time would be spent getting to the beltway. I am maybe 4 miles from the beltway. It takes me 30 minutes to get on it in the morning.

I had to go out to the home depot off 290 and spring cypress around 7pm one night this week. That intersection was a nightmare. People were cutting every which way through the parking lots nearby.

  5. Alot of y'all taking it as a joke, good. Because, don't come on here crying saying they bomb downtown, or somewhere. Furthermore, this is not a chain email. I wrote this last night when I was on the phone with my friend from D.C. So, take it as a joke. I'll be safe.

How will you do that? I'm curious.

  6. Do you guys think the north part of katy (above I-10) is going to become some day the next Spring Branch?

Well, I totally think so because there are many Hispanics on the northside of the katy freeway! and Morton Ranch, and Mayde Creek High Schools are getting kinda ghetto, they both have a 40 % population of Hispanis in their alumni, and besides, there many Hispanic meat markets aroudn North Fry Road like "La Alameda Carniceria" = The Alemeda Meatmarket, and also " La Durango Carniceria". What do you guys think about it??

I think the area is going down hill. I moved about a year ago. There were other factors, but that was a big one.
