Curious as to what an economic misimprovement means on the tax rolls.

Can anyone fill me in? I've toured some homes with this label, and I really don't see what justifies it.

What werdserf said. it's a bad word that should read "depreciation".

Get higher up on the real estate scale where you're dealing with millions of dollars worth of property, and this somehow equates to tax write-offs.

Trump made a lot of money that way

  2. Being one of the most divisive countries in the world comes with the territory when you are the melting pot of all cultures that want to come here. People become divisive when they close themselves off from acclimating with other cultures. Blacks and whites can all be born here, but we, at some point, came from different cultures and we live our lives with that as a base.

You can mix people in the same country all you want, but you can't erase their heritage. That's all and fine, but when people want to live as if their heritage is better than others.......you have divisiveness between cultures.

    It is what it is.

I feel like the more buildings that buy into the Memorial City style with the blue lights, the better it looks.  Driving through there at night is awesome.  Very Houston.  I'm supportive.

We should just call it "Houston Blue" and add it as a requirement in the building codes. You're right, it looks good at night and the city planners ought to keep the night lighting in mind.

  4. What will happen to the large plot of land at the corner of Interstate 45 and El Dorado Blvd? Something big should go here. Maybe a mixed-use development with multifamily, office, and retail? Maybe a big shopping center with a grocer as an anchor tenant?

This area has a big presence with being right off the freeway.  I wonder when it will be developed into something grand? Only time will tell..

and the "stuff" that has, and likely will continue to, make us great.

I hear that all the time but no one ever explains exactly how this makes us great. In terms only of being diverse, how are we better than, say, Tibet? Do we have some enlightened sense of how the world works that other, less diverse cultures, don't have? And if so, why are we still one of the most divisive countries in the world? Meaning that we still have discussions and social tensions between the whites and blacks. And we still seem to think that mexicans are taking our jobs. I could go on, but you get the point.

Don't get me wrong, I love America. But if you're going to sing its praises, please give us the meaning of the song.

As much as I love the fine stonework on early 1900s building, I doubt we could get a 103 story building in that style so I have to go Modern/Glass

You could if you marry the two styles. Accent the modern look with the early look for example. Good point though, I hadn't thought of that when I voted for the early style.

  7. Has anyone been to or through Brownsville? I have always wondered what that town is about. The only thing I have to go by in picturing the town is one of the lines in "Delta Dawn".
