  1. I live in Four Leaf Towers and have a view of the site.; I try to walk a few miles a day.  I noticed that the rug store had one of  huge sale signs plastering its windows yesterday, but couldn't read the actual words.  They also seem to have pulled a sewer line and capped it.  My hunch is that its a question of financing and what's going on in the debt markets for hotel/apartment properties and on a project specific basis there is a big factor on where the Houston economy will be over the term of the financing.
There are plans for two additional hotels on this strip and three across 610 in the not quite River Oaks district.

  2. I've lived in this area since 2001, including 90 days at the Hotel Granduca.  I walked through Uptown Park the other day and noticed that for the first time there were a number of vacancies, some with considerable space. In addition to Anejo, there was a restaurant called Champps (?) that had gone black, in addition to the Baker furniture space and several other smaller storefronts.  Add structured parking and you could thoughtfully redevelop and intensify the land use.

  3. I live in Uptown and believe that its the most integrated mixed use neighborhood in the city.  Nowhere else do you get the density of apartments, offices, retail, restaurants and hotels. Since I moved here  the Memorial Villages I have become less car-centric and I make a point of walking to the pharmacy, bank, supermarket, retail store , etc. in all sorts of weather. I even walked my Thanksgiving turkey into the house from Whole Foods.   I don't think Midtown has as anywhere near the green space that we have in the Galleria/Uptown area  and our TIRZ has done a great job with the streetscape, including sidewalk lighting , to encourage pedestrian activity.
