This building is an example of what is going to happen to a lot of buildings around town that are aging. The owners will have to find ways to adapt or there will just be old empty buildings from the 70s/80s that no one wants to rent.

From that view it looks almost the same height as Market Tower and that one is 40 floors. Not like there are elevation changes in Houston to account for.

I know it has to do with floor height but it is crazy to me how much shorter this look compared to the Travis and it being 2 stories less.

Makes perfect sense. ON NPR yesterday, it mentioned that it looks like the lumber bubble may be busting and prices coming back down but that lumber prices are still 3x what they were a year ago. China is also releasing more metals into the market and that help other construction costs as well. Seems simple enough to wait a year or two and save millions.

RIP Disco Kroger.
It seems weird to build another Kroger in its spot with an additional element like residential. Its not like there is much room there to build a bigger Kroger and have parking.

Disagree. Two towers gained a few floors and the tallest tower became a little less funky. And the pedestrian bridge *which was always a bit gimmicky* went away. As value engineering goes, this is not bad at all.
The rest of the buildings are improved but I liked how the tallest tower was twisted and had more floors.

I really want the east side to fill in now and create a cool canyon. I know it has been mentioned before, but these photos highlight how great it would look.

I guess I never wanted to live in Midtown. It does have some fun bars and a ton of townhomes. I just never rated it the same as other parts of the Loop.

It is a delay at this point and not a cancelation like the Caydon stuff. I really think it has to do with construction prices. This should rebound with either changes or wait for prices to drop back to normal.

Drewery Place and The Travis are obviously struggling relative to comparable properties in other neighborhoods. Do you think it’s a marketing failure or is Midtown just less desirable? I can’t help but think it’s a Midtown problem. I wonder if the recent surge in crime/shootings, the Greyhound Depot dilemma and the sheer volume of homeless people have many steering clear of Midtown altogether.
I just don't know as many people that want to live there compared to say Montrose, Rice Military, the Heights, Lower Heights, or EaDo. There just isn't anything to Midtown other than location. Places like EaDo, Montrose, and the Heights have a culture and vibe. It seems like Midtown has just existed and had some bars that were popular at one point.

I guess it is good they got one tower up before bailing. Maybe one day Midtown will fill in like we all expect but it is slowing pushed further to the future. Aside from COVID, I am sure the prices of wood and steel have made it that much more difficult. You will see more and more projects get scaled back, delayed, or cancelled (see McNair).

I love Heritage Plaza, don't care what anyone says lol
Why hate it? It is one of the few unique buildings we have.

Nothing says Houston like relocating historical structures for a surface lot.

Are they building a bridge over the water feature between the tunnels or will it be a culvert system? The rendering make me think culvert but that doesn't seem as hospitable to the ecosystem.

I ate at Burger Joint Saturday and saw this for the first time in person. Having lived near there for 5 years and spending a lot of time at this intersection, I really love how this project fits into the neighborhood. I think they did a great good of building a midrise that really doesn't feel like it is taking over the area.

Less than two years from ground breaking to opening. I thought this went fast but that almost seems impossible with the size.

Crane is actively coming down. I am curious how the "fins" on top will get hung. The brackets are in place but I assumed they would need the crane to place them.

So weird to see it come down. Of all the projects where demo happens, this one hits home the most. While I won't miss it, I spent a lot of time in that Half Price Books and Specs.

It looks like they cleared enough for at least what is in the top part of the image. Maybe not the bottom three buildings but it is hard to tell.
That high rise is dope.

MUSEUM DISTRICT, HOUSTON5501 La Branch St.OPENING SPRING 2022722 BEDSLive the high (rise) life at X Houston. Located in the cultural epicenter of Houston; the Museum District, X Houston is just a short bike ride from Hermann Park.
The elevated amenity club at X sets the bar for lifestyle, luxury, and learning with three stories featuring a full-service fitness center, dedicated co-working and creative space, and a stunning pool deck with food and drinks on site.
With all of these amenities under one roof, X Houston is set to be the city’s next destination location.
The link is now dead. I wonder if this one died with the market/COVID along with the protesting neighbors.

800 Bell St. (Former Exxon Building) Conversion to Residential
in Downtown
Posted
Couldn't it be converted to affordable housing? So what if the ceilings aren't as high, it could still be a way for a different demographic to afford living downtown.
