I too hope that by changing the design, they do something more interesting with the lighting than what's currently on top of there now.
-
I'm no construction worker or engineer, but the space is so small that it would bump up against the ES building during the groundbreaking process alone. The Astoria situation is a little bit different, it isn't literally 10 feet away from the other development.
-
They so need rail or some kind of trolley street car system in this entire area from Memorial City Mall to beltway 8. They are really missing a great opportunity here.
-
Wow! That is great news! I didn't know that the parking lot was under different ownership! That holds hope that something terrific could be put there!
Thanks!
I was just at the ES site and the remaining parking lot space behind the hotel is very small. To hold hope that something other than a patch of grass or a flowerbed could be put in there is wishful thinking at best.
Sorry ES won this round.

People in Dallas have to be dying in envy lol... HTown!
why do people in dallas be envious? They have a W hotel?
-
I think this calls for a drink tonight!

Good news. Great to see that downtown Houston hotels are starting to take off.
-
I'm to the point of FFF W hotels. If they think they're too good to establish a presence here, then to hell with them.

First time ever hearing about this.

YAWWWN. Discovery Green II.
Very exciting but redundant. Still better than what its replacing.

i hope this doesn't come off as a flame post, but i'm not really seeing what's so drastically different about this vs the old Houston Pavilions. But on the other hand, I don't even think i saw it when the renderings came out after this re-do was announced.
Hope my observations turn out to be wrong.

Stupid question.... Is this Mid Main project apart of the Superblock initiative from years ago?
-
I liked Earthquest's theme better. I guess we have to take what we can get. Maybe this won't turn out to be so bad afterall.
-
yeah i drove by there and was quite taken away by the letters. I thought to myself, " Look at Midtown Houston trying to get all sexy!" LOL

Bank of america would be cool to be lit as well as the lights coming back for Wedge, but all the rest of the buildings with the beige/white christmas rooftops got to go. They used to have the skyline lit with Christmas lights year round sometime early to mid last decade. I'm glad that stopped because it was quite tacky to have christmas lights on top of state of the art office buildings year round. Lighting the skyline is something I've always thought Houston could take notes from Dallas on.

. I think the shopping district should be in a fresh area of its own instead of being carved from the convention and skyline districts.
Then it would feel like downtown/Uptown Dallas.... Contrived and sterile. I think new development is great but i don't want to lose that organic/integrated feel of downtown. Downtown already feels spotty, theater district on one side, then separated by a stretch of tired office buildings, then you finally reach discovery green. My point is, downtown lacks continuity which causes it to lack vibrancy.
It's good to see this initiative which will tie other downtown destinations together.

are the plans for the restaurant or mini retail still on for the site of the park?
Anyway, this is going to take away from the uniqueness of discovery green. Just my opinion.

Damn that sucks. I was really looking forward to 7eleven returning to the Houston market again. I didn't want to get my hopes up with only 2 stores being planned but figured it was an acid test. It didn't even make it past that test!

All this wait for just a patch of grass.
Ridiculous

why do they keep pushing it back? That's a whole nother year from now.
First it was supposed to break ground springtime this year, then they pushed it back to springtime 2014, now its to Fall/Winter 2014? Sheesh

This is not enough proof to go off and really have an educated discussion about it. Its hearsay

seems like a nice development, but too ambitious for 3rd ward.

Doesn't Dallas have a Houston street downtown? Seems more like a tribute to each other.
that's a good way of looking at it.
Tell DC we want Rail

Good point KK. With that being said, I hope Ted Poe can pull some strings and mop the floor with this joke of congressmen Culberson. When is his time up anyway? He needs to go and get out of the way. It's frustrating to see Houston always being the city that keeps getting held back.
