Nate is correct. The two bay slice being removed will create about 50 feet of space to roll the rest of the 18 & 12 story buildings in to. With a full basement under the buildings there will be plenty of space for the buildings to fall into. There are a lot of man hours going into this project to insure a safe and succesful project.

The two bays being removed are to make enough room for the 18 &12 story buildings to fall and not hit the 6 story garage on capitol. Once the demo crews reach the roof of the 12 story they will take the same 2 bay chunk out of that one too. It is definitly a pretty complicated demo project.

The 6 story at Capitol is staying for now. Skanska is paying big $$$ to convert that into a stand alone structure. The ramps for the garage are in the 12 story that is coming down. That's the reason for the steel ramps at Milam. The Demo Contractor is taking a two bay section of the 18 & 12 story out next to the 6 story, this will create space to drop the building in.

I believe they are closing the tunnels in late May, early June when they close the garage on Rusk.

From what I have heard is they are scaffolding the building to access the exterior brick face for removal. The Netting is to protect pedestrians from any small debris that may fall. The owner elected to scaffold the face instead of using those climbing decks that were used on Texas Ave. Felt it will be safer.
