  1. Been cancelled a few months now Cinco. The group that was trying to get the loans for the waterpark, were denied due to being over extended and behind on other projects. I know the loan officer who denied their loan. I told him, "Hell, if you can get ME approved, then anybody should be able !" his answer was, "You didn't see these people's credit." Not to worry though, a new high-end mall is right around the corner, right there by the JCP's and Cinemark theater. I did hear from someone else that the AQUARIUM, is still going to happen, Landry's restaurant group is supposedly, "all in" , on that one.
  2. You can close your eyes all you want to what saigon's post was trying to lean toward. The guy can't even get the right store, but if he had known it was a Wal-Mart, do you think he would have said the one on Fannin and 610 , by the Dome ? I'll "bet" he would have. I'm sure he researched the annual crime report database before making his assumption also, just like you. Good work detective.
  3. I would say that The Galleria has a higher than average crime rate, how many cars do you think get broken into around there. You got some guy that rapes women in broad daylight over there, and they still haven't caught him. I'll care to wager that he was betting on the OST target, because of a larger population of, well, I'm not even going there. Ok, high crime rate it is. I had to edit this and thank BigTex for making my point.
  4. There was one injury. The poor ant that was on that leaf when it fell. Did you perform CPR ? Have you notified his next of kin yet ? We need answers DAMMIT !
  5. What if i told you it was the Target on San Felipe, by the Galleria. How much would you have bet then ? What would make you automatically assume it was the one by the Dome ?
  6. I guess Sam's gas will work in a pinch, but you really shouldn't use that stuff, if you like your car. I know, I know, Murphy gas is always the least expensive. Let me tell you why it is so inexpensive. They don't put any kind of detergents in the fuel to make it run cleaner in your engine, and you get really nice clogged up fuel injectors and what looks like someone spit out a whole can of Copenhagen on your valves, in a 36,000 mile engine.
  7. Only lasting effect i see is that people probably won't leave so fast next time, and the storm WILL hit. So, many people scared by the media, and what they saw happen in New Orleans. Katrina's storm, didn't cause the flooding, the levy breaking did, and local government's inept response, caused the melee to ensue. I think all the news conferences were a great media opportunity for our Mayor. Trying to show that "we are prepared" should have been pretty easy when you have New Orleans as a litmus test of "what NOT to do !" in a crisis. But, it just goes to show that you can't rely on human responses, given a life or death situation. A little protocal was mishandled in the way of how our city's evacuation plan was to go. It was supposed to go in stages. Galveston, LaMarque, Texas City, Tiki Island, all zone A, then zone B, Nasa, Webster, Alvin, South Houston. Zone C, etc. etc. The local media took the ball and ran with it, and being the smart guys they are decided to post ALL the zones at the same time. "Next thing you know, ol'Jed's a millionaire", and you have the absolute worst evacuation effort in the history of man. Sorry for this being so long.
  8. Yeah, I think Ol' Frank is gonna take a vacation after this one. For crying out loud, if you live in a mobile home on the seawall in Galveston, Why do you have to ask Frank if he thinks it's a good idea if you should evacuate because you are wading around in 5 feet of storm surge in your double-wide ? I swear people just like to hear themselves on TV and radio.
  9. Is that Ex-Pres. Clinton's library ? I hope it is at least a Double-wide.
  10. I heard that by Monday, the trucks should have been able to fill up alot of gas stations again. Cross your fingers. You should be able to make it back from S.A. or Austin on a full tank. Hopefully we won't have a repeat of the pre-Rita disaster. I think Bill White is going to announce which communities can come back first, so we don't have the same traffic woes again.
  11. Well, I don't recall there being a Crips and Bloods gang rivalry going on in Austin. EVER ! Little Rock used to have huge gang problems. Maybe they cracked down on it.
  12. That quote right above is funny, damn funny ! Sure, keep the minutemen in Arizona and Houston might have a shot at beating Phoenix.
  13. Like anybody BUT your neighbor could have gotten to you for that overpriced wood. I hope you at least charged your "neighbor" only what you paid for it.
  14. Do you live off of Yorktown ? What Hurricane ? Just a little breezy out.
  15. Yep, Peppermint Park's building is still there, and still painted in the red and white stripes. 59S. at Beltway8. I drove by the old PP building the other day, and it has been painted a tan color. OH WELL !
  16. . All i have been hearing for the past 2 days is sirens over here in Katy. I just finished getting all the rest of the "missiles" from out of my backyard. I agree about the "news" coverage. I can't take it anymore. Good Luck to you when the winds come, "hunkerdown" my friend.
  17. It is pretty demolished, but Medical offices is what's goin' up, there is a big sign announcing it out front.
  18. I think we might be passed out in the first hour just from all the shots you have to take from the the white and eckels news conferences.
  19. TxDot owns those roads, not the city of Houston, your state tax dollars pay for them. Mayor has to get together with TxDot and have to get a plan to close off exit ramps and entrance ramps, then they have to move the concrete barriers, and get the state troopers involved. TxDot, has to take time to evaluate the "situation" and then decide whether they can spend the money and time to do it. It is a very large effort. It just should have been considered alot earlier than 25 hours into the evacuation IMO.
  20. So, I guess you'll just let em take what they want from you. Good deal, what's your address, so the looters know where to go instead of over here by me. You probably live in a van, DOWN BY THE RIVER !
  21. Town&Country Mall, will be turned into all Medical offices. They are renovating it right now.The Luby's cafeteria will stay. The Land across beltway 8 is a staging area for the I-10 construction right now, I believe they are going to build a highrise there eventually, perhaps a Hotel. The land used to be a Gibson's years and years ago, then Houston Nusery rented it out the parking lot for awhile.
  22. New day New word ! "SCARE-TACTICS" I hyphenated it so it would work. You have to say it kinda fast and let it roll together. Thanks to all the local news teams, look at the shear insanity you people have caused our fair city. It is absolutely impossible to predict a hurricane, You can put up 200 "models" of where it might hit, and you will probably get one right. Now we have a roll reversal of Katrina, all the "aftermath" came BEFORE this damn storm even hit. we have 350,000 people stuck on the damn freeways passing out from heat exaustion and stranded motorists having heartattacks over what the hell they are gonna do now. I think poor Bill White has done as best he can except working with TXDOT to open all the freeways a little earlier for everyone. Sorry, I'm rambling, I'll stop.
  23. Only thing they can loot at my house will be the five or six shotgun slugs I'll pop off into them, They can make off with as many as they can carry.
  24. There was also Fur and leather store, and a Smokehouse Deli store, where they sold cheeses and summer sausage and wines from all over europe. I can't rememeber the name of the store, it was right across from the Fur store though. The candle store, wow, talk about memories I actually got to make my own candle on a field trip to Westbury. The old Chinese store, what a great place for cheap trinket junk. I always got a chinese yo-yo and a pop-gun, everytime I went and both lasted for about the ride home, go figure. I recall a big fountain in the middle also, or am I mixing memories here ? I happen to drive by it the other day. I had stopped for a Hawiian Ice, at the little stand outside of it. I didn't even recognize where I was, until I really looked at the place. 20 some odd years really changes things. Truly a sad sad sight to behold.
  25. Don't confuse bravery with stupidity. Even if Rita was a category 5, and it did happen to hit Galveston, that "brave" soul wouldn't be around afterward to tell anybody about it ! All he would get to do is tell St. Peter , "Holy Crap ! That wave was friggin HUGE ! "
