  1. every time a new post hits this topic, i get all excited thinking that someone is going to announce she is leaving and being replaced by a decent host.

    ah well.

you forget that this is the network that has kept jonathan walton on their payroll for some years, during "The NEWS!". whitney's not going anywhere.

  2. Listened to some R and R last week. My opinion - bland. This city's number one media and reputation problem is the low standards we allow for media, in my opinion. I lived throughout the MidWest, Chicago, spent weeks here and there,,,I am not a "hater" but the way we recycle media types is unlike other cities where media types move on to bigger cities because they are competitive and good. I guess we just have our "permanent" fixtures in radio, new, talk shows, and we're gonna keep em! WC from GDH is the only new-comer I can think of,,,is there anyone who has moved on to bigger and better in past 5 years? I have some friends in production so I am connected on and off to the gossip they know, or share, but the different kinds of media awards throughout the year recognize the same 3-4 people in the same categories each year, so there's no competition, so maybe it just appears that we have exemplary media people.

    Is it just me?

  3. I'm not too surprised to hear those things about Whitney. On screen she sometimes comes across as cold, insincere, obnoxious and yes, immature. But maybe she has problems.

I like Houston having a local show again, but I wouldn't mind seeing a new host and a little bit of show tweaking here and there. Mary Lou Retten recently co-hosted an episode of GDH and I thought she did a pretty good job. Plus she lives in Houston and has for years. She even once hosted some children's show from Houston.

Watched GDH a little today, which is rare (day off) and here's an observation: They had a segment about Youtube and posting videos on the internet, and then another segment "How to tell if your child is being followed over the internet, predators, or involved in illicit rings, something like that",,,,,and when they would pan thru the audience, it was 100%, i really mean all retirees, and these folks had been retired for like 20 years. They were having a good time, but perhaps "Web-site" Wednesday is not quite relevant to that demographic?:lol:

(sorry that's what came to mind. my retired mother would've sat in the audience, and Youtube would be in the same category as rave parties, flash parties, the show "Lost," etc and so on)

  4. I could not have described him better "myself". He is definately an A-class Douchebag.

There's an Al Pacino line, "I don't know who you know, whose cousin you are, whose %^&* you're suckin'",,,,but what is up with a NEWS station keeping this tactless clown. I mean it's like the guy IS playing a joke on us and poking at us,,,,,because if he has half a wit he must know that he's tactless. This is the best gig he'll EVER have.

Nothing personal,,,i just catch his segments and think what poor harmless souls who get approached by a major Houston News Station, and then they gotta talk to this clown.

  5. Good to see that Willy Walker is doing her usual bang-up job over there.

I met her at WareHouse Live a few months back at a Houston Magazine party and I said hello to her, and congratulated her on her show, and then this was her response:

she said "thanks" or "that's nice" it was really fast, and then turned sideways so she was at a distinct angle AWAY from me, and told another girl "your hair looks really good."

I though MY GOSH I am potential viewer, I could be a potential advertiser, I could have been anyone i mean being at the same party that she was.

that's all. the person who describes her as throwing tantrums and such sounds legit to me.

  6. Atom and Maria have a dedication on MySpace. I don't see much chance of KRBE "bringin 'em back," but in this town, with its low-grade TV and radio in my opinion, I suppose anything's possible. I don't mean to be down on our town, but our media people are not competitive elsewhere,,,,so we're stuck with them forever!

(haha,,,someone comments that "country music would be better than Roula and Ryan!)

  7. well, at least those people contribute something to community and have some volunteer gravitas to their merits.

when i first saw "most beautiful people" I thought it was going to be another contrived piece about over-exposed houston River Oaks wives, or like throwing in new-comer without a cause Whitney Casey, or Roseanne Rogers, or Dominique Sachsa.

    this article exceeded my expectations.

  8. ^ I can't believe Houston had talkshows like that! I am impressed! Have any of those shows from Houston's past gone nationwide?

There are good new talk shows on cable access channel. There's a cable access show that gets well known guests, and notable locals. I bet the local media folks are pretty comfortable in this town for duration of their career.

  9. Ever been to San Diego? If that was the mayor talking about being scared to have "new people" in the town,,,San Diego is pretty much folks in between something like not cool enough to survive in LA, and not cultured enough to enjoy san Fran. It's fleeing to the suburbs for some contrived security. What about the NO evacuees who wound up on the desolate military base in UTAH? Talk about a lifestyle change!

  10. Hi,

I was reading about different talk shows in town, and here's my favorite that I stumbled across from the __________, www.___________.com.

_____________ has a good talk show even thought it's on public access it looks professional.

    The __________ said he's on _____________, and his web-site is www._______________.com.

Hey, this city has very few, if any new personalities,,,this kid could be it!

    Cheers!

    Jennifer
