Noticed the beautiful blue lighting from 45! It really adds something special to the downtown skyline. Market Square Tower picks up the reflection of the building. I'm loving it. Drove down to see it in person and I'm amazed. Love the transformation of DTHTX these past 10 years.

I'm sooo glad to hear that they've picked up those additional parcels! Now if we can get rid of that Pacesetter and that Jack In The Box we'll be in business! Glad to see this area changing a bit.

Brass Tap is opening in MidMain. It'll be on the corner of Holman and Travis right across the street from Holman Draft Hall. This is creating another walkable mix of drinkeries on this side of midtown.

Just realized they fenced the entire sears block as well. The actually building along with the parking lot. Can't remember if the lot across from it (between the shipleys and the rail station) was ever fenced, but it is now. Drove to the store last night and it was amazing! It's really making the area feel better. I only saw a handful of homeless.

Fences are up around the block that the auto shop was on as well as the large parking lot that sits between Fiesta and Sears. Don't know if that means anything but it's deterring the homeless from sleeping there...but they'll find a way back, I'm sure.

The signage for 9Round Fitness is up next to Kura on Main.

What's being built right by the smoothie king off the corner of Westheimer and Montrose? It about two stories. Steel framed. Across from Uchi. Been searching the forum for it but can't find it.
Merge if topic exists already.

The fence is up around this lot. It's been up for a few days.

Wow!!! I literally rode my bike past this one a few hours ago and was about to ask if anyone knew what this was going to be. There's a bunch of toilets and debris that looks like it was removed from the building. Great location across the street from MidMain and MATCH! Wow, Midtown is becoming the beer garden Mecca of Houston! (Axelrad, under the radar, woosters, beer market company, this one!)

I love living in midtown. I'm torn between wanting the GFR or high rises. I love the fact that I can (and I do) walk/bike to a grocery store, bar, restaurant. My circle of friends are from car-dependent cities and I love when they're surprised when I tell them we're walking to a bar. My only complaint is the sketchiness that's still up and down midtown.

Fannin Street
Tom Waits
There's a crooked street in Houston town
it's a well worn path I've followed down
now there's ruin in my name
I wish I never got off the train
I wished I'd listened to the words you said
don't go down to Fannin Street
don't go down to Fannin Street
don't go down to Fannin Street
oh yeah
you'll be lost and never found
you can never turn around
don't go down to Fannin Street
once I held you in my arms I was sure
till I took that silent step through the gilded door
but the desire to have much more all the glitter and the roar
now I know that this is where the sidewalk ends
don't go down to Fannin Street
don't go down to Fannin Street
don't go down to Fannin Street
you'll be lost and never found
you can never turn around
don't go down to Fannin Street
when I was young I thought only of getting out
I said good-bye to my street
good-bye to my house
give a man gin give a man cards
give an inch he takes a yard
and I rue the day that I stepped off this train
don't go down to Fannin Street
don't go down to Fannin Street
don't go down to Fannin Street
oh yeah
you'll be lost and never found
you can never turn aroundOh snap! I live on Fannin!

The Sears Auto Shop is closing. May 26 is the last day they'll be open. 50% off what's left in the store. Spoke with one of the guys that worked there, Carl (perfect definition of great customer service, btw) and he said they might do something on the lot the auto shop is on and the big empty parking lot between fiesta and the sears. Sears own that empty lot and the auto shop and Rice owns the Sears building. VERY interested in what's to come with this development!

I agree with ALL of the comments about closing down the Fiesta and Sears. I live a block away from both. I only go south of Cleburne unless I'm riding my bike to Hermann Park.

Bayou City is still up and running. With no signs of closing (went by there last night). The old hollywood adult store is going through a renovation. They have all the equipment outside and in the building.
-
Don't know if any noticed but there is a beautiful Welcome To Midtown sign (concrete marker) when you exit Louisiana from the 59 Spur. I meant to take a pic.

I was out in the gayborhood today with friends and we noticed the old Hollywood super center adult store under construction. The adult store moved next door into a smaller space. We went in to ask the worker what they were turning the old adult store into and he said a Hamburher Mary's. As we kept bar hopping we noticed the flyers everywhere. We even came across a Facebook page.

Hamburger Mary's is a burger joint that caters to the LGBT community with various Drag shows and other forms of entertainment. I believe they started in West Hollywood, CA.
Scheduled opening is February 2017
oh and this was the supposedly new (relocated) Hollywood Vietnamese restaurant.
