I saw today that they tore down the building at 804 Milam that used to house Eats Mesquite Grill. Very small footprint so I don't know what's planned and assume its just a very small surface parking lot. Anybody else hear anything cooler?

Reminds me of this old documentary made by the city in the 70s, where they showed an old "hanging tree" still out by the courthouse, to remind people how things used to be done. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the very same tree used to lynch these people. Anyone know if that tree is still there?
The "hanging tree" is still there. From what I understand, it was never actually used for lynching but was the shaded area that those wishing to view the lynchings sat under. The idea that it was actually used for the hangings came from its title. Not sure if that is true. The tree is fantastic though, so I hope the fact that it was not directly related to the lynchings (if true) will save it.

this building doesn't really do so much for the skyline, but the way it works locally, with the angles, really make it take over that area.
I still think that it will do a good deal for extending the width of the skyline from that angle. Remember, when you look at that picture, that it will be about the exact same height as the old Continental building.

Sorry to get yalls hopes up, but I was wrong. It's actually Mia Bella not a La Madeleine. I'll post a picture of the permit on the door below.
Quite the opposite, not a fan of La Madeleine at all and I think it would do horribly in that spot.

Wish I knew. Did you see that cinder-block chimney looking thing coming out of the roof?
Yeah, no idea how the historic commission allowed that. -
I couldn't find a topic on this building but the old Magnolia Ballroom/Brewery Tap/Red Cat/a ton of other stuff has been going through renovations for months. It looks like the full building is being renovated. Does anybody have any ideas what is going in here?

Does anyone know if this will return as Main Street Market? I walked by this morning and it's completely gutted with construction workers in there. Wasn't sure if this is still post-fire remediation or something new?
Man I hope not.

I agree, it's been surprisingly nice. The stone will be curved and has a nice look to it already. For a parking podium, it's better than any other I can think of in the near vicinity
Better than Aris?

I've been waiting to hear what people thought of the stone as it was going up. I know the finished product is still to come and may look better but thus far, the stone is worse than I expected.

They already have equipment set up and have removed the dog statue where this will go. I saw a neighbor post about it on Facebook. My assumption is that she asked the construction workers.

Just saw they are adding in a splash pad and swing set at Market Square Park. Big statement as to the changing dynamics of the area and ENORMOUS if you have a kid and live close by.

They just both accepted new positions with other real estate companies. I don't think it should have too much of an effect on this project.

I always feel like the Union Station portion of Minute Maid is underutilized for such a cool space.

I hear it called Bellaire sometimes. Doesn’t make any sense since they are just naming it after a Street and a Bellaire already exists. Most of the people I’ve talked to don’t know there is a Bellaire.
