School Registration

The Houston Independent School District (HISD) registration for grades K-12 ends Friday Sept. 9.

Parents and children will be transported to the schools Friday for orientation on HISD school buses. School supplies will be provided by donation and available at the schools.

Quiet Time

Because it's important for our residents - especially the senior citizens and the very young - to get their rest, a Quiet Time has been instituted. Residents are asked to be in the facility by 11:00 p.m. The facilities are closed at that hour, and will re-open at 5:30 a.m., so residents won't be disturbed during the night.

Apply for Assistance

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). You must register with FEMA to determine eligibility for assistance. Call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) or register online at www.fema.gov/.

The American Red Cross will continue distribution of the Client Assistance Card to the Reliant Residents on Friday morning Sept. 9 on the first floor of the Reliant Center at 9:00 a.m. If you have questions, please call 1-866-433-4636.

. When your hands are dirty

. After you use the bathroom

. After you change a diaper

. After you handle garbage

. After you blow your nose, cough or sneeze

. When you have been in close contact with someone who is ill

How You Should Wash your Hands?

1. Place your hands together under water (warm water, if possible)

2. Rub your hands together for at least 10 seconds (with soap, if possible). Wash all parts of your hand well, including wrists, palms, back of hands, fingers and under the fingernails.

3. Clean the dirt from under your fingernails.

4. Rinse the soap from your hands.

5. Dry your hands completely with a clean towel.

Food Storage Reminder

Food is not allowed in the "sleeping areas." The food can spoil and make you sick. It also can cause a rodent or insect problem.
