I was browsing The Citizen dated November 14, 1947 and came across a business listing for Underwood and Ezell Drive In Theatres - The Main Drive In located at 9900 South Main St. and Winkler Drive In located at 205 Wrinkler Dr. A little confused. I thought the South Main Drive-In Theater was located at 11510 South Main St. You also had the McClendon Triple Drive-In Theater located At 11991 South Main St. Was this an earlier location of the South Main Drive-In Theater? Pretty cool find!

Greetings. Wondering if anyone is aware of a link to an aerial of the old South Main Drive In near Stella Link and what is now Willowbend? Or any other old photos of it for that matter. Thanks in advance, Neil

Shepherd Drive-In, which was on the site at 6004 N. Shepherd now occupied by Reddy Ice (just north of where W. Montgomery crosses N. Shepherd). Airline Drive-In at 4507 Airline - looks like there are several businesses (a motel, a doctor's office, and another building that looks residential) on this site now, judging from the street view on Google Maps. There's a very nice color picture of the drive-in on Cinema Houston's drive-in page.

As I said, I've been trying to find out about that drive-in theatre that I went to when I was a little kid (the Winkler). I saw on a street map that it was located at the corner of Winkler Drive and Flowers Street. I looked up that intersection on GlobeExplorer.Com. In that space of land that the Winkler was on I saw some other businesses. Could anyone tell me what their names are? It looks like the front of them are facing Interstate 45, so their addresses should be listed as Gulf Freeway.

In my research on "Drive-Ins.Com," I found out that many of the now closed-down drive in theatres in Texas were owned by C.C. Ezell & Underwood. The one that I've been trying to find information about for at least the past six months (the Winkler Drive-In Theatre in Houston) was owned by that firm. Does anyone out there know anything about what might have happened to C.C. Ezell & Underwood? My Google search turned up nothing. Chet Cuccia It might be listed the other way around: Underwood & C.C. Ezell. I don't know for sure. It was one way or the other.
