  1. 2. Strake Jesuit's campus is getting bigger and more dense with a new large addition to the campus. They really like to adhere to their core architectural theme, and I guess it makes for a cohesive looking campus. Loyola Hall will be their biggest academic building. Its going to be where the soccer field is between building 8 and 20. Little known fact, originally the entrance is where Fiesta is now, but financial troubles forced Strake Jesuit to sell that land, as well as the land behind where apartment buildings are now. They recently reacquired the lot, number 21, which were also apartments. If you've ever visited Strake Jesuit, you know it doesn't have a proper entrance, per se, and that's the reason. Its like entering a shopping mall. If you're wondering why there are so many individual buildings, Strake Jesuit wanted to give the campus a college like setting with individual buildings for different departments. https://strakejesuit.myschoolapp.com/app/detail/video/5602611
  3. In case you've been living under a rock during the Christmas holiday break, TX Governor Greg Abbott (R), in a scathing tweet on Twitter, put Houston ISD's failed leadership on full-blast. He also slammed the district's leaders for "self-centered ineptitude" & rallied for the State on taking over the school district's Board of Trustees. I believe that Abbott's right on this one for obvious reasons: the recent ugly racially-polarized battle over the demotion of Houston ISD Interim Superintendent Dr. Grenita Latham in favor of former Houston ISD Superintendent Abe Saavedra from a few months ago(who recently left San Antonio ISD & refused to return to his old job in Houston due to the backlash) which spiraled out of control following racial divisions between the African American & Latino Houston ISD School Board members: later the Board of Trustees voted to keep Latham as the Interim Superintendent. State Senator Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston) is pushing legislation which could eliminate single-member district in favor of At-Large Districts including other measures. Like to know your thoughts on Abbott calling out Houston ISD & calling for statewide takeover of the State's largest school district ? https://www.texastribune.org/2019/01/03/texas-gov-greg-abbott-take-over-houston-isd/ https://abc13.com/education/gov-abbott-says-houston-isd-leadership-is-a-disaster/5011215/ A.) 4. I figure I'd start a new topic on Photography since it gets brought up occasionally and derails a topic a bit. My time is limited so I don't want to head to another forum blog and much rather talk to those of you that share the same interest in Architecture and Houston as a whole. On this topic I hope to discuss photographic locations/opportunities, equipment, lens selections, and maybe even a photo walk if there is enough of an interest. Currently, I own an Sony a55 with the following lenses: 28mm 2.8 50mm 1.4 18-85mm 3.5-5.6 70-300mm 5.6 some other novelty lenses.
  5. Anyone know of the good nursing programs to become an RN in or around Houston?
  6. We are planning to send our kid (2+) to some sort of pre-K/Daycare/Montessori and would like to get feedback on the Programmes/Places around TMC area. We need only 2 or 3 days a week and trying to find out whether that is an option. Specifically, anyone has feedback on 'Childrens Hour Montessori' / St Nicholas school in Medical center area ? Also, I heard there are some programmes operated by Churches. Appreciate feedback with a note about fees they charge.
