I had noticed the work and progress at the Jean Lafitte hotel but wasn't sure what the story was there. Now if we can just get some news on the Martini Theater... With the cruise industry booming in Galveston I would have thought at least one of those towers would have made a nice boutique hotel My wife loves Galveston so we actually bought a historic (weekend) home last year and now I love it, too. I'm biased but it seems like things are getting better

    I thought so. The reason for my confusion is that Google Maps indicates 6900 Main is where the Wyndham Hotel is located.

    That is part of the Celestial Suites, inside what is now the Crowne Plaza hotel next to NRG/Reliant Stadium. The suites, part of the Roy Hofheinz legacy, take up the entire top floor of the building. They have been unused for 10 years. It looks like the carpeting was replaced at least in this room sometime in the 90's. Here's a recent news story on the Celestial Suites http://abc13.com/archive/9323116/

    HBJ is reporting that San Antonio developer, Ocean2Ocean, is planning to build a 12-story, 250 room Wyndham brand hotel on the East Downtown block bounded by Chartres, Rusk, St. Emanuel and Walker. The area is one block away from the Dynamo Stadium. Additionally, Swamplot is reporting that the hotel will cost $12 million and the banner will be either a Wyndham or Wyndham Grand hotel. The site was previously the On Leong Merchants Association building, which was recently demolished. HBJ Link, full article for subscribers only

    I have a question for HAIF, Was the Wyndham Hotel located at 6800 South Main Street ever at hotel called Sheraton Houston Place? Thanks!
