Does anyone have any memories of the restaurant that used to be here or any other tenants in the past? It is a wonderful building. I am curious as to why it is still vacant..

Hey guys, some of you know I've been working on opening a coffee shop for a few years now, well, I'm very happy to say now, it opened Friday! We of course have coffee, but our other drinks include juices that are freshly squeezed on site, we also have beer and wine. For the beer, where possible, it's Houston local, or Texas local. We have pastries from Riviera bakery on fountain view, cake from take the cake, regular cookies and vegan cookies from sinful bakery. Our roaster is a uh alum, Katz coffee, we also feature single origin roasted from various different rosters around the country. Ian Armstrong designed it (another uh alum), and we feature artwork from students on campus. Hope some of you guys get a chance to come enjoy it, especially those of you who work on campus, or live nearby, we definitely designed the shop with the campus in mind, but I also know (living in the east end) that there's very limited options on this side of town for a cup of coffee and I had that in mind when designing the space :-)

I have heard about the HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE tour the Avondale Association is planning and I walked down Avondale street where the tour will take place---To my utter surprise there are only 2 "historic" houses on the north side of avondale street in the 100 -- 200 and 300 block of avondale-----essentially from Taft to Bagby--only 2 houses! ( one a private house and the other an attorney's office) on the north side of the street-- what happened to them? I'm curious as to what they looked like--Are there any old pictures of those houses that were torn down?? Several Houses on that street are vacant--will they likely be torn down?

It's now an apartment complex and probably some of the parking lot of the movie multiplex. To the neighborhood kids of the 60s and 70s, it was just "the woods." It was where the kids got away from their parents to do their smoking, toking, drinking and all the other "ing" things that they weren't suppose to be doing. I tried hiding my Playboy stash out there once, carefully bagging it in plastic and carefully tucking my treasure under some rocks, but somebody discovered it and took it. I remember coming across a yucky matress and a makeshift shelter of plywood with cigarette butts, empty liquor bottles, etc all around it. Strange thing was, there was evidence galore of people coming and going, but we rarely ran into anyone else. The occasional bb gun dude, but 90% of the time, you felt like you had all the acreage to yourself. Seems like a weird thing to feel nostalgic for.
