  1. I know this goes way back in the old days of promotional videos, but Ch. 13 used the "Houston's Great" back around in 1985 or maybe earlier, here's one from 1985: "Houston's Great Promo of Ch. 13", the nice part of the video is the Circle 13 with the downtown skyline at the end with fireworks LOL. *Here's a similar version from WYXZ-TV Detroit, and Bill Bonds talking about the Detroit, MI comeback, etc., Any thoughts ?
  2. Just got word that Sonia Azad, the general assignments reporter for Ch. 13 is leaving the ABC O&O station after almost 6 years. She joined Ch. 13 in July 2009. She made the announcement on her Facebook page according to mikemcguff.com: http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2015/03/sonia-azad-leaves-ktrk-abc13.html?m=1 Her station biography http://abc13.com/about/newsteam/sonia-azad No word on where Sonia will end up in the next gig, but she'll let us know! Reaction of Azad leaving Ch. 13?
  3. Sad news to report about a member of the Houston media. Vikki Cummings Taylor Rosenkranz, better known as Vikki Taylor to TV viewers, passed away following a battle with cancer. In recent years, Taylor filled in for Don Nelson on Ch. 13's morning traffic reports. Before that, she was Westwood One's airborne traffic reporter for 104.1 KRBE & KTRK for 14 years according to her LinkedIn profile. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2015/01/houston-traffics-vikki-taylor-loses-cancer-battle.html?m=1 http://abc13.com/news/traffic-reporter-vikki-taylor-dies-after-battle-with-cancer/499339 Reaction from anyone on Taylor's passing?

This slot has been open since Knight has already replaced Sharron Melton on the Disney/ABC Television Group station's morning weekday newscasts. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2015/01/chauncy-glover-ktrk-abc13.html?m=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK1rmpEQjLg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eLyxvEqEgA Any reaction on Glover joining Ch. 13's weekend morning newscasts ?

  7. Ch. 13 is beefing back up its management ranks after tumultuous few months, but the Disney/ABC Television Group is thinking a bit outside the box with its new troops. Last summer, McGuff Blog had started sending out breaking news alerts non-stop when news director Dave Strickland resigned, executive producer Jerry Vazquez left for the position of KTMD-TV news director chair & assistant news director/former reporter Don Kobos retired. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/12/ktrk-abc13-hires-two-assistant-news-directors.html?m=1 Any thoughts on the new hirings @ Ch. 13 ?

Yesterday, he celebrated his 48th anniversary with the Houston ABC O&O station. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/11/dave-ward-to-only-anchor-ktrk-abc13s-6pm-newscast.html?m=1 http://www.ktrk.com/ Reaction from anyone on Ward's cutting back of newscasts at Ch. 13 ?

  11. Following the departure of reporter Jessica Holloway (formerly of KVUE-TV ABC 24 Austin), who left Ch. 13 to work in the Harris County Tax Assessor's office. Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com reporting Angela Chen is now with the Houston Disney/ABC Television Group station after being with KOLO 8 Reno News Now as a morning reporter/fill-in anchor for the past year. According to her Linkedin account, Chen has also been a New York Times Freelance Contributor for the past 2 years. Ahead of Reno, Chen worked as a freelance reporter for San Diego 6 News XETV-TV & KBAK/KBFX the CBS/Fox duo in Bakersfield, CA. 14. Former KHOU-TV morning traffic anchor Katherine Whaley posted on Facebook she's now working for Ch. 13. Sunday night, Whaley changed the jobs field on her Facebook account to "Started Working at KTRK-TV." Does this mean she's taking the morning traffic anchor/reporting gig Ch. 13 was advertising recently? "You may remember I am an active blogger, covering Houston food, my original recipes and travel," Whaley told mikemcguff.com last July. "I am planning to relaunch the site later this month. Stay tuned!" But will Ch. 13 allow Whaley to continue her Dash of Decadence blog ? Plus, the bigger question is whether longtime beloved traffic anchor Don Nelson plans on retiring from Ch. 13 after over 30 + years? Lots of questions ahead.... According to her old KHOU bio, Whaley previously worked in Las Vegas at KVBC-TV as an anchor, reporter and weathercaster. She also anchored and reported at KLFY-TV Lafayette, LA and KAVU-TV Victoria. Whaley grew up in Houston, attended Memorial High School and graduated from Rice University. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/10/katherine-whaley-joins-ktrk-abc13.html?m=1 Reaction of Whaley working for Ch. 13 ?

I know ChannelTwoNews has lots of old VHS tapes being uploaded on his YouTube page with news clips, promos, briefs of Ch. 13 during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Houston TV viewers will recognize Kobos, who joined Ch. 13 in 1982 as a reporter and often reported on Live at Five or the weeknight newscasts for example. He started out as an investigative reporter and eventually covered everything from politics, education to general assignments. Following the 2001 inauguration of George W. Bush as our 43rd President on January 20, 2001, Kobos went on to become assistant news director. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/09/don-kobos-retires-from-ktrk-abc13.html http://www.ktrk.com/ Reaction on Kobos' retirement ? Sunday, July 21, 1985 with Melanie Lawson Van Hackett sometime around 1985 (anyone can tell me which date this update brief took place, let me know). http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2is83_ktrk-houston-newsbreaks-1985-abc-pro-news July 12, 1985 with Dave Ward.
  22. Has anyone noticed that the Extra Points show (which used to be hosted by Bob Allen, Tim Melton and Bob Slovak), has now looked different this year because I've noticed that the guests such as Ralph Cooper, Charlie Pallilo, Kenny Hand, etc., haven't been heard from since like last year. What's going on? http://www.ktrk.com/
  23. Exclusive from MikeMcGuff.com, this afternoon, KTRK Ch 13 news director Dave Strickland announced to the staff in an email he's leaving the ABC-owned station. Rumors have been swirling the last few weeks that Strickland was leaving the station. He hadn't been at the station during that time. In the memo, Strickland cited the job was affecting his family, life and personal relationships. Strickland was news director for 14 years. He started at KTRK-TV as an intern, worked his way up to sports producer, then news director. In between his KTRK time, Strickland was news director of WAVY-TV 10 Norfolk, VA. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/07/ktrk-abc13-news-director-dave-strickland-resigns.html?m=1 Reaction from this development of Strickland leaving Ch. 13 ladies and gentlemen?
  24. Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com reported on Tuesday that KTRK Ch 13 Eyewitness News reporter Deborah Wrigley had just wrapped up her day covering the Houston Fire Department contract vote, and then suddenly needed the department's services. As she posted on Facebook, Wrigley was hit by a car on her way home. She described it as "being in a blender of car parts." She appears to be OK now based on the fact she took to Facebook to recount the event. Wrigley's words of advice: "drive defensively!" http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/06/deborah-wrigley-in-accident-ktrk-abc13.html?m=1 Reaction from anyone on Wrigley's accident?
