  1. Good Morning HAIF family. Here's a Discussion Megathread on Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston. Enjoy!
  2. Howdy everyone. Unless y'all have been living under rocks during the early part of the Summer, Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston Reporter Ivory Hecker announced during the 5:00 PM Newscast yesterday evening that she's teaming up with Project Veritas in blowing the whistle on her own company. Something tells me Fox 26 GM & Executive VP D'Artanian Bebel is NOT thrilled with Hecker's Jack Bauer-esque rogue-ness including Hecker's accusations that Fox Corporation has been muzzling her from telling the truth to the viewers: https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2021/06/ivory-hecker-fox-26-project-veritas.html The Houston Chronicle's title has Hecker claiming she's been muzzled by Fox 26 & the higher-ups of that station: https://www.chron.com/culture/tv/article/Houston-Fox-26-TV-Ivory-Hecker-Project-Veritas-16249035.php https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Houston-Fox-26-reporter-Ivory-Hecker-alleges-16247795.php Any thoughts on Hecker going off-script on live TV yesterday & the ramifications if she'll keep her job at Fox 26 ? Because once again, I've got a feeling D'Art either didn't know she was going to do this OR found out like everyone else & is PISSED off.
  3. Fox 26 5:00 PM Anchor Rashi Vats has been working her way through the Lone Star State's TV markets & Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com has a list of achievements on Vats' journalism career over the years: She's also married to CBS 11 KHOU-TV Houston Sports Reporter Daniel Gotera as well as a graduate of Texas Christian University. https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2020/09/rashi-vats-5pm-anchor-fox26.html https://www.facebook.com/RashiVatsFOX26/
  4. Good afternoon everyone. Hoping all of you are staying safe out there with this international pandemic, etc.,, Anyway, here are some videos for nostalgia & everyone to reminisce the Good Ole Days: Metromedia (later Fox 26) 26 KRIV-TV Houston from 1983: Metromedia 26 Program Line-up (either Spring or Summer 1983): Notice the studio set behind Ginger Casey during what was then Metromedia 26 newscast from 1983. (Sports Update with Dave Sheehan from 1983) Metromedia 26 Promo from 1983: Let me know what y'all think of these archived videos from the good ole days of Houston TV News.
  5. Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston News Reporter Lindsey Henry is leaving the Houston Fox Station after almost 3 years: https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2019/10/lindsey-henry-leaves-fox-26.html https://www.facebook.com/LindseyHenry365/
  6. In case you're living under a rock, longtime Houston Consumer Reporter Emily Akin has announced her retirement from FOX 26 KRIV-TV Houston & in her final days on the air, is using her 40+ years of journalistic experience to share her best tips with viewers. "But before I go, I want to leave Fox 26 Houston viewers with some final consumer advice," Akin posted on Facebook. "All this week I'll focus on issues you have asked me about the most." Houston TV viewers first got to know Akin on NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston in 1995 through segments like Akin's Army, Not On That Menu, & Good Housekeeping. Akin's Army was really an army..... an army of volunteers that helped consumers across the Space City. The consumer advocate left NBC 2 in 2005. After teaching at Houston Community College (including teaching at the University of Houston), she returned to Houston TV... this time at Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston, continuing the tradition of helping viewers with Take It To Akin. https://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2019/07/emily-akin-retires-from-fox-26.html https://www.facebook.com/EmilyAkinFox26/ Thoughts on Akin's retirement from Houston TV News ?
  7. Just like that..... FOX 26 Weather Meteorologist Lisa Vaughn is no longer with the station. Her last day was on Monday, April 16th: http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2018/04/lisa-vaughn-exits-fox-26-kriv.html No explanation has been made on why Vaughn left Fox 26.
  8. Today was the LAST day for Rita Garcia at FOX 26 KRIV-TV Houston after 6 years with the Houston FOX affiliate. Plus, Garcia will be going to FOX sister station, FOX 11 KTTV-TV Los Angeles, CA. While there's no word on what she'll be doing, someone found a Google search of video demos that Garcia was doing in early October for KTTV's "Good Day LA" Morning Show (The legendary Steve Edwards is still there from what I hear & for those, who don't remember: the "Good Day Live" TV Show, which was on FOX 26 & other FOX affiliates in the early 2000's). "She's one of the best, hard to see her go, but so happy for her bright future," said Morning Anchor Melissa Wilson. Garcia joined FOX 26 back in December of 2011 from Los Angeles, so it's a return to the City of Angels for her. The then-CBS 2 KCBS-TV Los Angeles freelance reporter joined the FOX 26 family as Weekend Anchor & Reporter. Less than 2 years later, she moved up to the weekday morning newscasts, where she's been ever since until today. The Lone Star State native began her TV News career in Welasco, TX with ABC 5 KRGV-TV. Garcia holds BA Degrees from Texas State University of San Marcos (Mass Communications & Spanish). https://www.facebook.com/RitaGarciaFOX26/ http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2017/12/rita-garcia-leaving-fox-26-for-fox-11-KTTV-LA.html Post your thoughts on Garcia's departure & her return to the City of Angels.
  9. Here's the latest on the Lisa Vaughn Watch because she was supposed to return on August 17th, but that day came & went: https://www.facebook.com/lisavaughnweather/
  10. Coco Dominguez has been named as the Traffic Anchor for the 5:00 PM Newscast & Lifestyle Correspondent at FOX 26, announced station VP & News Director Susan Schiller. 11. Effective on Monday, August 21st, FOX 26 will be debuting "The News Edge" beginning at 10:00 PM, announced by station VP & News Director Susan Schiller. The Monday thru Friday half-hour newscast will be following the station's current 9:00 PM Newscast & leading into "FOX 26 News Isiah Factor: Uncensored", which will be returning weeknights at 10:30 PM. With this major expansion, the station will produce 57.5 hours of local news programming each week, more local news than any other station in the market. Kaitlin Monte (who was just named as Melinda Spaulding's successor as the station's weeknight Primetime Anchor), will be anchoring "The News Edge". This will offer viewers a fast-paced format, which will allow the audience to engage with FOX 26 on trending news & topics relevant to them via the station's social media channels. Monte will continue to anchor the 5:00 PM & 9:00 PM Newscasts alongside Jonathan Martin. Plus, "What's Your Point" will continue on Sunday mornings at 7:00 AM. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2017/08/fox-26-debuts-new-10pm-newscast.html
  12. With FOX 26 News Anchor Melinda Spaulding leaving pretty soon after almost 13 years, there's still the question of who will succeed Spaulding in the 5:00 PM & 9:00 PM Newscasts. Who do y'all think will replace Spaulding ? A.) Rita Garcia B.) Kaitlin Monte C.) Natasha Geigel D.) The Field
  13. Who saw this one coming ? After 12 1/2 years with the station, FOX 26 Evening Anchor Melinda Spaulding has announced she'll be leaving. In her Facebook page, Spaulding said she wants to spend more time with her husband & kids & doesn't want to miss another moment. https://www.facebook.com/melindaspauldingfox26/ Thoughts from anyone on Spaulding leaving FOX 26 ?
  14. After 26 years with KRIV-TV Fox 26, Reporter Andrea Watkins has decided to call it quits & going out on top. She's a no-nonsense reporter, who easily handled the hard & aggressive news all the way stories on how to save consumers money. Watkins also posted on her FB page: "Just letting you know that today is my last day at Fox 26. I've enjoyed 26 great years at the station but it's time to relax a bit, enjoy more time with my family, & look for new adventures down the road. It's been a great pleasure & privilege to tell the stories I have told over the years. Thank you to all for allowing me to share your information, concerns, & experiences with the people in the Houston area & beyond! I wish all the best to the wonderful friends I've met in my journey. I'm sure we will find ways to stay in touch." According to former Fox 26 reporter Lanny Griffith (former co-worker of Watkins for 15 years), "I have never seen anyone attack a subject like Andrea Watkins," Griffith told mikemcguff.com., "Her interviews were piercing & relentless especially when it came to elected officials. She kept the flames turned up under their feet. They don't make 'em like her anymore." In 2011, Watkins had battled breast cancer & was working part-time. Ladies & Gentlemen: Wish Andrea congratulations on her 26 years of service to Fox 26 & her future endeavors! http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2016/09/andrea-watkins-to-leave-fox-26-kriv.html
  15. Looks like the exodus of Fox 26 continues. News Director Bob Morford, after 4 years with the station, will be leaving on June 1st & going to WAFF-TV Hunstville, AL. According to sources, who told Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com., Morford never even fully lived in Houston considering that his wife resides in TN, so he often commuted there during the weekends. He joined Fox 26 in 2012 as an assistant news director, where he was later moved up to the top job 1 year later when then-News Director Tom Doerr left for WFLD-TV Fox 32 Chicago, IL & became that station's news director there. In the meantime, an aggressive search for Morford's replacement is underway! http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2016/05/bob-morford-leaves-fox-26-kriv-news-director.html
  16. WOW, this is something I didn't see coming: Fox 26 5pm & 10pm anchor Don Teague is no longer at the station, according to several sources. It's also reported Teague was escorted out of the station last week! http://www.chron.com/entertainment/celebrities/article/TV-news-anchor-Don-Teague-out-the-door-at-KRIV-TV-6842886.php http://www.inusanews.com/article/16144141509/tv-don-teague-fox-houston-kriv-tv-anchor http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2016/02/don-teague-suddenly-exits-fox-26-kriv.html I want everyone's reaction to Teague's sudden exit from Fox 26 & the details on what resulted in him getting the boot!
  17. This development completely took me by surprise... Fox 26 KRIV-TV news reporter Kristine Galvan has left the station after 10 years. On Tuesday, in her personal Facebook page, Galvan explained why she's leaving Fox 26: "As some of y'all know, I had a right knee scope in January to fix a badly torn meniscus, medial ligament tear & lateral ligament tear. 'On the job' recovery was difficult-especially during cold snaps & the Houston rodeo." But the most interesting part of the story is where Galvan mentioned the changing state of TV news industry, particularly the rise of multimedia journalists. In Houston, they've hired very few in the past year. http://www.chron.com/entertainment/celebrities/article/Longtime-Fox-26-reporter-calls-it-quits-cites-6305244.php https://www.facebook.com/KristineGalvan For any Fox 26 viewers out there, want to hear your reaction on Galvan's departure from Fox 26 after a decade! Later this month, she'll turn 37 years-old!
