  1. I've gone into the Woodlands version of the Central Market a few times now, and unless things pick up dramatically, they may be going the way of Albertson's. It is always dead slow in there, more of a tourist attraction but people just walk through and look around and then leave without buying. Meanwhile the Krogers and Randalls in the area always appear to be bustling. What gives?
  2. It was great to see Lakewood Church the centerpiece of ABC World News Tonight the other night with Peter Jennings. His topic was Red States, Blue States, and the focus was on the new kind of televangelism today with young preachers such as Joel Osteen making such a strong impact across party lines with his nondenominational approach. Great to see Houston featured prominently in such a positive way by Mr. Jennings (for a change...).

PARKS, Houston Chronicle TALE OF THE TIGERS Downtown Aquarium's white Bengal tigers include two females and two males that will appear in the new exhibit in pairs.
  4. Tilman is the P.T. Barnum of the restaurant business. Why, just this year he was honored as Man of the Year by the Greater Houston Restaurant Association!
  5. "I square danced on the Don Mahoney and Jeana Claire Show!" LOL, anyone remember Cadet Don and Kitterick on KTRK (Ch. 13)?
  6. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Petite Elite By Michelle Galley Zoe Zalesak spends some time on the Oriental rug in the infant room. The center accepts children as young as 6 weeks. In a brown-brick building here, around the corner from a Circuit City and across the street from a Sam's Club warehouse store, sits what some say is a paradise for the sandbox set. Just past sunrise, parents begin to pull up in Mercedes sport-utility vehicles and Toyota minivans. They walk their children past an off-duty police officer and step into a glass-enclosed foyer. Here, they use a touch-screen computer to enter the personal code assigned to their child. This registers the child for the day at Cr
  7. Montessori Children's Cottage This was the place where my daughter went to ten years ago. I haven't been back in at least five years, but I was extremely impressed with the teaching methods and the staff when she went there. I truly believe that the groundwork laid by that school is at least partly responsible for what a great student she is now. If you don't or can't use this place, please consider using someplace that employs the Montessori method. I can't recommend it highly enough! Good luck to you!
  8. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Market Watch January 2004 Open Air Centers vs. Enclosed Malls Date: November 19, 2003 Speaker: Steve Weingarten, Executive VP, Weingarten Realty Organization: O'Connor & Associates ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ My remarks will be primarily about open air centers in Houston versus enclosed malls and, more specifically, I will focus more on grocery anchored community and neighborhood centers, since that
  9. "I am sorry, but someone has to say it..." no, really, they don't....
  10. Just a stab in the dark here, but I think what he was trying to say was if Koresh (a loner) had gone to A&M, maybe he would have become part of the whole camaraderie that A&M is famous for, and things might have turned out differently for not only Koresh but a whole lot of other people connected with that mess.

  12. Pollack After reading the "About Us" and "Press Releases" sections on his website, I am newly impressed with Mr. Pollack and wish he could come to Houston and work his magic here. His ideas on redevelopment would be highly welcomed here.
  13. I think it was Gary Pollard's Colonial House. Where he is now is anybody's guess.
  14. God love the Mitchells! U of H is a wonderful university and it's fantastic to see this level of generosity from a "local boy done good" going to a local university.

  16. This latest adventures in renting videos was actually just the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak, Cinco. I had heard about Netflix and after reading the favorable comments made by many of members here, decided to give it a try. I guess I just have a low level of tolerance for antiquated methods, and trust me, waiting 30 minutes in a line is not worth the hassle when something better is available. Kinda like you and the Metro bus, huh?
  17. Thanks for all the comments re; Netflix. Last night after waiting in line for about 30 minutes at Hollywood Video, who only staffed two teenagers on a Friday night (which is not fair to the kids working there or to the customers), and paying late charges because a movie was returned a hour late last time, I told the family we are switching to Netflix. Can't wait!
  18. My bad, I don't mean Uptown Park, that's near the Galleria. I mean The Park Shoppes on San Jacinto, near the Four Seasons. For awhile, it was called Uptown Park. (I think it's always had a bit of a identity crisis, though.)
  19. I had heard the announcement this morning on 88.7 and understand that it is meant to entice additional retail/restaurants to the nearby areas. I wonder how this affect Uptown Park Shops? Will it "cannibalize" their sales, or will more friendly competition encourage even more interest in the area?
  20. N8TIV- Your last comment about the Boston Globe made me laugh because it reminded me of my grandfather (long since departed). He was a die-hard Steelers fan living in Pittsburgh all his life. Every year he would send me a five-dollar bill enclosed in a card on my birthday. It always read the same: "Have a great birthday! Love always, Grampa P.S. Tell them Oilers to get the lead out of their pants!!!"
  21. We watched the 'Stros play on one screen, and the Sox on another. Both these games were nail-biting tense playoffs. Everytime they showed the Boston fans, all bundled up in their coats and jackets, they had their fingers crossed or were shown with their hands in praying position. I got the distinct impression that all those fervent prayers must've helped put them over the edge! It also made my glad that our guys were playing at MMP and not there. I wonder what the weather is supposed to be Wednesday for our game...
  22. Impressive impressions, dbigtex! Thanks for the insight into Midtown!
