I saw it again this morning.
Walking through Mason Park, along the bayou. I had seen it about a year ago and never came to a conclusion as to what it was. It's charcoal grey rounded form broke the smooth surface of the water then went right back under again. No head or tail, just a hump. Unlike fish there that jump in series of two or three jumps, this thing just surfaced once, same as the last time I saw it. The part that surfaced looked to be it's back and was maybe 2-3 feet long and maybe a foot across. I stood and waited for several minutes to see if I could see any other indications of it's presense.
No ripples. Nothing.
Do we have manatees occasionally, maybe seasonally? Its only a few miles to the ship channel. Perhaps the back of a humongous catfish? It is a protected wetlands there and the fish that I've seen are nice and big. It wasn't a gator, too smooth. Any ideas?
Big turtle? They get reeeely big ya know....

Yep.. I have seen it.. I couldn't figure out what the hell it was gonna be. I live in Lindale Park and my neighbor talked to the auto shop next to it and said it definitely is going to be a home. The only reason I could think of is its going up because the rail is supposed to go up Fulton. Any ideas?
LOL. I figured it would be a funeral home....too big and too wierd of a location to be a house.....also as I recall its placed on the lot such that it will have no backyard.

Thanks to everyone for your replies!
It is nice to see there is opportunity for a 1st time home buyer to live near downtown. I had started to lose hope after looking at prices for the Heights and Montrose areas... I am going to do a little exploring out in the car this Sunday. Any Eastside neighborhoods that are must-sees? I am definately checking out Idylwood, Forest Hill, and Pineview. Riverside Terrace had some amazing homes, but I haven't seen many for sale.
Danny
Mason Park Terrace has some cute houses in it, but is kinda ghetto. Eastwood Supplement also has some cute houses, but again, is kinda ghetto, although less ghetto than MPT.
Anyways, welcome to the same boat I'm in. I want to live close in, but can't afford the west end unless I buy a condo, and that ain't gonna happen.

Forest Hill is one of my favorite areas.....the winding streets, and hills are really neat....although I think all those old moster houses that predate everything else are a little wierd. Know any more of the story behind those houses? Why are those huge houses in there, and everything else is a more typical size?

Is there a standard purpose for such items that I'm unaware of? I've never heard of nitrogen being needed in the 'administration' of any intersections...
curious
Yeah...there's one on W Dallas behind the American General complex, then another one at like uhmmm Gray and Waugh I think...
The ones I've noticed are always beside telephone poles, and there's some plumbing going from the tank up the pole....it may be used for cooling equipment up there, or it may provide positive pressure for something, or who knows.
These tanks may or may not contain enough pressure to be a missile. I suspect that since they're so large, they have a lower pessure than the sort of tanks you're thinking about.
