Anyone else go to the groundbreaking? I've never seen SJL booed like that. I guess being a politician you get used to that, but there is some serious hate towards her.
She must know that she sucks....good for her for being reelected again, but she has to be sharp enough to know she's getting by on demographics and nothing more. It's really easy to hate incompetence.

There are hubcaps on the building now. I wonder how close they are to opening! I'll be there.

Swamplot reports another Walmart will be opening inside the Loop, Supercenter this time.
RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE OUTRAGE!!!!
But seriously, where? I would guess 45 south-ish if I had to.

It's official. The Andrew Sisters were douchebags.
I notice that there's no female equivalent term - perhaps douchebaguette?
We never fault the women - we just sit there and jealously mutter under our breath that the hot chicks who hang out with douchebags would be better off with us.

4866 in Houston Pavilions. I bet there is one with 10,000 out there.

macht schnell!
ok, so I don't have many chances to use my only German.
This sounds like one of those places where someone decided what sort of skimpy waitress outfit they wanted to use and built the theme around that.
We are simple creatures. Kudos to anyone who takes advantage of it!

Hells yeah! Definitely my kind of place.

Do the Dynamo have a contract with Aramark or Chartwell's? Just wondering if beer prices will be ridiculous. If it's decent, I might even go to a game.

Time to explore that "ignore" function on the board...

Just for reference, what residential area in Houston has better restaurants than the Heights?
My recommendation is Calliope's at 2130 Jefferson
Big Mamou is ok now and again, but I secon Calliope's. Better food, more of it, and for less $.
Mardi Gras Grill is also good stuff. Cajun comes in many different forms, all of it can be good.

The Passat is looking kind of Camry. It was always a bit different but seems to be losing that.

Does any action have to be taken by the opposition for this ordinance to be thrown out by some judge? I think this is an easy case of the city going well outside its power and undertaking a very unfair process. If it ever falls to a judge I can't imagine them taking long to overturn it.

And it is not about what a single house looks like on a single lot. It is about the continuity of a historic neighborhood. Stick a McVic in the middle of bungalows and you bust the block. Put in a camelback, you still have the continuity. Not perfect, but a far cry from dropping in a McVic.
I don't know what neighborhood you live in, but my Heights could never be described by continuity. It's as random as you could possibly make it.

We have a winning combination with the offense, but the defense is just atrocious aside from Pollard and Cushing.
You are right about the defense needing improvement. They could use Dom Capers back on the sideline for that, he's doing a damn decent job as def coordinator in Green Bay.
As for the offense, are you sure? Andre Johnson will make just about any QB look good. I'm not sure Schaub is a franchise QB from a leadership standpoint. Look at the differences between Brady/Brees and someone like Romo. Dallas is supposedly the most talented team in the NFL this year. They haven't done anything in years. Brees and Brady are making average talent teams super powers because of the way they lead. Coaching helps for sure, but it's not the only thing (Belichek failed a few times before NE). It's all about the QB, and he's proven he's not going to win those close/late games.

There are so many wholesale jewelers, and even those who make their own here in Houston. Unless you are going for something incredible simple and low cost there's no reason to go retail or chain. Jewelry is marked up even more than furniture, I'm sure the wholesalers are still screwing you, but to a much lesser extent.
There's a building on Richmond (6222 I think) between Voss and Fountainview that is full of jewelers, I think 9 or 10 floors of them. Just go there and find someone you think is trustworthy (might be hard if you have a phobia of Persians/Arabs/Jews). Also, it's fun to say "I got a guy" for jewelry and not be just trying to sound funny.

My favorite view of downtown is from the west side, coming over the Durham bridge over White Oak bayou, and to a lesser extent Shepherd on the bridge over Allen/Memorial (it's closer and the angle is better but there is some tree blockage), just before the sun comes up. The natural light makes downtown look awesome before the sun pops above the horizon. Every morning I come that way, I wish I had my camera (and 2 extra hands).

Hey, don't be dissing analog clocks! I have one in my vehicle.
That dash looks a lot better to me. Maybe it's just the overall styling as opposed to the individual element that I don't like.
-
Is that an analog clock on the dash? If so it's fitting, I think Chrysler's are fugly and have horrible styling.

Downtown shots during MNF tonight looked pretty dark, but I like it.

Looks like the Sam Houston National Forest has jumped south and taken over Afton Oaks, and by 2012, the chrome, halo type street signs in the Galleria area will hover in place? Ah, renderings...
I like how you can see completely through the building. Unless the vantage point is on a huge hill, otherwise the reflection tree-line would never line up with the background one.

I love that orange color. This thread makes me want to buy things I can't afford, I should block it or something.
-
If they build it, hell even I might come. but only on a guys' night out kind of thing where I can get just drunk enough to not notice that soccer is boring.

Defense wins championships...oops!

Ha! 15 minutes? 3:30 AM doesn't count.
I make it from near 610 and Shepherd to Westlake plaza in 20 minutes all the time at 8am, and back at 5pm. I-10 is not a problem.

City Streets was way tacky, but for some reason we kept going there for happy hour when I first moved here back in '01. It did have some redeeming qualities, like if you get too belligerent at the piano bar you can move over to the karaoke bar, then if it happens again you still have options without driving!
