  1. The condos are going to be at HWY6 I believe, not in front of City Hall. The building in front of City Hall is going to be an office building I think. Plus, it's positioned where the entrance road would go between that building and the Mariott, so I think there will always be a clear view of City hall from 59.
  2. Johnny Rockets is open now http://www.johnnyrockets.com/index2.php Looks like the italian restaurant is coming along too.
  3. I noticed there are some updates on the city's website. Including the land use plan. http://sugarlandtx.gov/sugarland/imperial/index.asp
  4. First Colony is Sugar Land though. First Colony is just a master planned community - an area of Sugar Land since the annexation. It's the kind of thing where you say you're from Sugar Land and then you add first colony as a qualifier if anyone actually gives a crap. Now areas like New Territory and Greatwood are differant because they're techincally not in Sugar Land - just in the ETJ. The thing is that a lot of people don't even realize that since the mailing address is Sugar Land and those areas techincally are not in any city. People from those subdivisions would probably also say Sugar Land because "greatwood" and "new territory" are not cities.
  5. http://www.pcdltd.com/ Not too many details out there yet. Just the same old renderings and such that have been there for over a year. I can see driving by it that the infrastructure is coming along and the offices are popping up fast.
  6. I know 2 of the structures are the "char house" which is the big building that's the main landmark, and the water tower. They're the only 2 I had heard about them preserving, but I guess maybe there are 2 more.
  7. I think the issue is that there were a lot of delays in working with the GLO to purchase tract 3. That was a conditions of development - that it would only work if they could get the big chunk of land next door. I just saw in the paper a month or so ago that they did get the land. Supposedly it was the biggest purchase in the history of the GLO. One of the local piece of crap Ft Bend newspapers was trying to get details of the sale under an open records request but they were denied. I bet we'll see something start soon if tract 3 is secured.
  8. Sort of what happened in all major cities. I've been reading this book called Privatopia that is the history of homeowners associations (a-holes). It's pretty interesting. The part I just read talks about how much damage the suburbs have done on all cities by moving a lot of the middle and upper class (and their tax dollars) out of the cities and into these little private suburban kingdoms. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through the book, but so far I'd recommend it. The funny thing is that it's 10 years old and everything it talks about is still true today.
  9. That area is know as Lake Pointe - http://www.firstcolonytexas.com/LPVillage.htm For some reason I believe also heard talk about a river walk around the Imperial Sugar redevelopment. That is if they ever get started on it. I believe the builder is having some trouble acquiring the recently annexed open land further down the road. https://svrch13.sugarlandtx.gov:5202/forms/imperialinfo1.htm
  10. I have only lived in Houston for 3 years, so apparently I never saw the Westwood Mall. I guess these places just look so similar that I confused them. I guess my bearings were off a little!
  11. I don;t know that area too well and I guess I just assumed that was the Sharpstown Mall. I mainly just drove over it on 59 and stopped there to go to Sears once twice in the 3 years I lived in this area. That was a mall until recently though, right? Even if I have the name wrong, when did it change? I was just shocked to see a place that was once a mall suddenly turning into a corporate center. I had never seen that before. Speaking of Town And Country - what did they do with it? Is it still vacant, did they bulldoze it, or will it too become a corporate center. Maybe a church, knowing Houston. hehe
  12. Am I mistaken or did the Sharpstown Mall recently disappear? I went down to Sears there last week and wondered why the parking lot was empty. It looks like it recently changed into the Southwest Corporate Center or something like that and Sears is the only retail tenant left. I didn't hear anything about this and was surprised when I noticed. What's the story?
  13. Astroworld was terrible anyway. It had to be the worst Six Flags park of all. Anyone that's complaining about it should have went there a little more often, spent lots of money, and kept it profitable. I'm just kidding, but I'm really not too upset to see it go. I bought a season pass lsat year and only went twice since the park was so bad. A bunch of their rides were hand-me-downs from other parks.
  14. It only says it's a retail center so far. I have no idea who the tenants will be. Although I believe one will be The Home Theater Store. About a year and a half ago there was a press release saying they were building at that site. However, something makes me think that they'll be a stand-alone and not in that strip you see at the corner.
  15. I knew Clear Lake had a brewery. That's cool that the non brewery locations do carry their beers in holding tanks. Now I don't mind so much that there is no brewey on site. I really like a few of the beers BJ's brews so I would have been disappointed if they didn't carry them there. I'm glad this place is coming to compete with Baker Street Pub because I don't really like that place. We need more good bars in SL.
  16. I've been to a BJ's in CA, but have never been to one that doesn't have a brewery. Question - do the non brewery one's at least carry the beer that they make at the other locations? If not, the Sugar Land one is going to suck. I'm not gonna go to a brewpub to drink Butt light or something like that.
  17. I verified that Incredible Pizza Company is taking the former Target building between Big Lots and Dollar Tree. As I said before, I noticed construction for a few months but didn't see a permit with a name on it or anything. When I drove by today I noticed something I had seen before but had no way of identifying. Real big in tape on windows of both sides of the entry they wrote "IPC" in white tape. Obviously that must stand for Incredible Pizza Company. I had just assumed before that it was a construction company or something.
  18. Reading the story you linked made em think of something. I bet there is a good chance that Incredible Pizza will take the old Target building in Sugar Land. Big Lots moved in next door, but I noticed they didn't actually take the Target building, just another large space next to it. I noticed they're doing construction in the taget building, but the signs don't really give any details. If they took a K-mart building in Conroe, a Target building in Sugar Land is probably a good place. Plus that's probably the cheapest large space available in Sugar Land. I was assuming that they had to build a location, but never thought about the possibility of retro-fitting a large retail store. Anyway, I could be wrong, but I'd bt on the Target building by Big Lots, Dollar Tree, and Palais Royal. (The slums of Sugar Land...j/k) The article about Conroe also mentioned that the Sugar Land location should open December 1st. That especially makes me think it's in the old Target building because there has been work going on in there for a few months.
  19. http://www.bjsbrewhouse.com/restaurants_pa..._sugarland.html I just found out that it's a BJ's Brewhouse they're building at the corner of 59 and HWY 6 across from the Town Square. In the future Creekside at Town Center ( http://www.page-partners.com/flyers/creekside/creekside.htm ) I've been to one in CA and liked it. Too bad this one isn't a brewery though. There is one with a brewery in Clear Lake that I haven't had a chance to check out yet. Also, apparently there is a place coming called "Incredible Pizza Company." ( http://www.incrediblepizza.com/ ) It looks like a nicer Chuck E. Cheese kind of place. When I was searching for "Chicago Pizza Sugar Land" on Google I stumbled onto a lot of job postings from July 2005 saying that Incredible Pizza Co is coming soon to Sugar Land. I was looking for that because all I knew about BJ's was that I saw the alcoholic beverage permit said "Chicago Pizza" in it. (that's all I could read when I drive by). I wonder where this other pizza place is going to be.
  20. Did anyone else notice how they're converting the Compaq Center into a church? I couldn't believe it when I saw that sign! Here's some general info I found through Google. Sorry if this was already discussed somewhere else. http://www.injoystewardship.com/solutions/...05_lakewood.htm
