  1. We had Ritz-Carlton and couldn't sustain it. I think there's no way in Hades that they would EVER "give" us another one.
  2. Hubby and I are attending an event in the Heights. Would love some recommendations on a good restaurant to go to afterwards. Thanks in advance.
  3. I haven't been around since Ike, I think, but anyway, I am glad that I re-visited this thread. I looked at the Google street level map and saw a lot of the old homes that I remembered and visited in on Laurel Drive. I found this site http://www.trulia.com/property-sitemap/TX/Houston/77021/Laurel_Drive/ to be extremely helpful to me. The last time I was on Laurel Drive, I thought that three of the most beautiful houses that I had ever seen were gone. They weren't. I might have been on the wrong block of Laurel. I saw them on the Google Map, then that website above told me the years they were built. There was only one built in the 1970's, the rest (what remain, they are not all there, unfortunately) are the original houses. With the exception of one, they sure looked bigger when I was a little girl!!!!!
  4. Demo it and pave a parking lot. It's the Houston tradition I'm serious. Me too!
  5. My kids LOVED that thing. They literally cried when it was taken out.
  6. 5-7-9 Casual Corner I cannot remember the name of the store downtown that carried junior clothing Foley's Sakowitz Joske's Gap JC Penney's Margo's LaMode in Almeda Mall
  7. Wow. It sounds from the description that he was affluent (Kincaid shorts, the clothes he was wearing, bike, etc.) Wonder why Mommy and Daddy aren't looking for him? This is so sad. I have a 15 year old and a 16 year old, so this hits close to home.
  8. We have one in Clear Lake. They have a very limited menu. The regular burger has two patties. You can add anything you want to it (grilled onions, mushrooms, etc.) for no charge. Their fries are better than sex! My sons and my hubby love the burgers. I go there for the fries!
  9. Well, I worked downtown several different times. A couple of times in the 80's, when the tunnels weren't much, then for 4 years - 2000-04, and I loved the tunnels. If they get to you, you can go outside and walk in the traffic and construction and inhale the exhaust, grease and bums. One time I saw this poor homeless woman sitting next to what used to be Foley's. Someone had poured spaghetti and meat sauce all over her, and she was trying to eat it! It was terrible. Downtown is depressing. The tunnels aren't depressing, and the streets of Downtown ARE. It's that simple. I vote tunnels. Keep 'em coming. Allison was sad, though. Lost my good parking garage, and lots of my favorite businesses in the tunnels.
  10. The Late Show First the news and weather then the late show The greatest movies ever made And you see them free, right on your own TV You never need a ticket for the late show Relax and just sit back and watch the late show The greatest movies ever made No need to far You don't need to use the car Or something close to that
  11. They had a very nice restaurant there. That's where I had my first Chef's Salad, when we thought anything called a salad had to be good for you. They remodeled the lobby and dining room to that beautiful two story building that was apparently torn down. Nice memories. We would go there every Sunday after church.
  12. Yes, it is real. I was married to a sex addict for 15 years. Problem was, the sex was not with ME. It is a real disease with a real diagnosis and hurts real people. Really.
  13. There was a location on Park Place Blvd., as well as a very large one in Gulfgate. I wonder why they aren't mentioned?
  14. Just wanted all to know we will be staying with my Mother. If things get bad, we may have a call chain from Crunch and Music to people northbound to try to find dry land! Thanks all. Be safe. Stay dry. Pray if it's your thing. Send good thoughts if prayer isn't your thing. But know that there are oodles of people on this board thinking of all of you. God Bless You, PapillionWyngs
  15. Yes, we are running out of time, and we still haven't left yet. A lot of our neighbors aren't going, and we honestly can't decide what to do. We have reservations at a hotel in College Station, but then they said that they are expecting hurricane conditions on Saturday, as well.
  16. We were thinking about evacuating to her house, but it sits on Sims bayou. She says that she cannot leave, and I am really torn. Right now I am taking animals to the kennel, getting our medicines ready, trying to decide where we are going to go and how many cars to take. ( We are in 77059 - mandatory evacuation). If anyone has any advice, please, we need it. I hate to leave my mother like this. Thanks, Susan
  17. I registered her, with her permission, and told them that she was housebound and had a small dog and a large cat, and that she cannot walk unaided.
  18. Clear Lake area. Not sure if we are staying or going, but concerned for my Mother, age 85 in Park Place area. Would appreciate someone checking on her if she stays - and since she is housebound, she is probably going to stay. Could probably use help boarding up, don't even have a truck to carry the boards in, or a saw to saw them with. Thanks much.
  19. They still have a meat market and grille on 518 close to 2351.
  20. We have one out here in Clear Lake - off El Dorado. It serves pretty good food - just don't go if you are allergic to peanuts - shells and dust all over the floor. Also, some of the waitresses wear short cur off jeans, and the management has them line dance a couple of times every hour. I could do without that.
  21. What about Sander's BBQ on Park Place? Best everything in the world - and they were a meat market, too!
