New addition coming to CityCentre - 7,000 sq. ft. Tasting Room with a 6,500 sq ft patio. Nice!
-
Reminds me of the corner of Winrock and San Felipe... they tore down a series of apartments and built 1 CVS and 4 banks, three of which are next to each other. Simply stupid and adds nothing to the area.

Right. I was not implying it would be going up anytime soon. It just seemed weird to keep one little parcel undeveloped and it looks perfect for a mid rise condo/apt building.
The plan is for another mid-rise but, yeah, it may be a while. I have no doubt that it will eventually happen. The places is primarily leased with restaurants and it gets packed in the evenings. Ruggles Green should open any day now and I think Cyclone Anaya's is close.

Spending more and more time at CityCentre and am really amazed on how busy it can get during the week. We were there last night and were commenting on how it looked like a weekend - patios at Ra, Yard House and Brio were full... plenty of people at Straits... people hanging out at Monnalisa... kids running in the plaza and a surprising amount of car and foot traffic. The permanent Ruggles Green sign is up and we also spotted this - http://www.floraandmuse.com/ will be opening. Cyclone Anaya's is coming along as is McCormick & Shmick's (not part of City Centre but across the street from Eddie V's).
Nice!

Just passing along some positive feedback, as City Center was well hyped by the overseas contingent during OTC. They said the buzz amongst most Oil and Gas folk from abroad was that City Center is THE place to go.
When I brought the folks I was entertaining from the Netherlands, some of whom lived her for over a year, they said "I never expected something so beautiful and so European in Houston".
Funny... we had dinner on the sidewalk at Cafe' Rose' on Saturday night... one table was full of German speakers and another was a group of Scandinavians... couldn't pinpoint the exact language.

Brio Tuscan Grill is open now. We tried it tonight. It seemed like a slightly more upscale Maggiano's. The nicest thing about it are the huge patios and windows. I had filet mignon; it was decent and the prices are reasonable. I've been going to CityCentre once a week now and it's usually so crowded that you may have a 45 minute wait to get into Yard House, etc...
Last Thursday they had a mini car show. There were a few old Ferraris, Porsches, a McLaren race car, etc... Here are some shots a buddy of mine took.
Brio had a wait on Monday night... the place was buzzing.

A person from West Side of Houston was trying to convince me that the City Centre is the natural center of Houston. I just said, you are joking, right?
I said it's basically re-invented mall with residences. they are popping up every where in the country in suburban neighborhoods and cities.
Having said that, it is still better than having old style huge parking lot malls.
Actually, if you look at where the majority of growth has taken place in Houston (Sugarland, Katy, NW Houston), CityCentre is pretty much the population center of Houston. It has been shifting west for quite some time and that's why it was named City Centre.
We went to Yard House last week for lunch - no problem getting in. BUT... we called the previous Friday night and it was a 1 1/2 hour wait. We've also had a chance to check out Cafe' Rose... very nice place for an espresso and a light bite.

CityCenter hosted a NYE party on the plaza and it was full of people - band was playing outside, all restaurants/bars were full and there was a midnight fireworks show.
-
Stayed at Hotel Sorella this weekend - great hotel, nice attention to detail and very clean, modern design. The Monnalisa bar was packed and there were people out and about at Straits and Ra. Really love that this center is growing.
-
They had a band playing on the plaza on Thursday night... quite a few people came out to hang out on the lawn. Mona Lisa set up a cash bar out there so you could buy beer, mixed drinks or wine. Straits was open and Yard House was still in the works. They're doing a really nice job there.
-
Ra Sushi has been open for a while
Hotel Sorella and the Mona Lisa lounge are open
Eddie V's opened last night
Anthropologie is now open
Straits looks almost done
Yard House is getting there
Bailey Banks and Biddle looked almost done
Bit by bit...

We ate at Ra a couple of weeks ago, right after they opened and plan on going again this week for happy hour. They've done a nice job and are building a huge patio out back. The area in front of the Hotel Sorella looks nice, too!

Is Ra finally open???

Really can't wait to see what ends up on Memorial...

This one is really really bad inside, I don't think its worth saving
Whoever lives there routinely has estate sales about once a year. I can't figure it out. When the house is open, you can see 2-3 rooms (kitchen, living area) but nothing else. I thought I remembered some cool components in the kitchen area but not much else. It could be worth fixing.

Seen the house on Memorial Drive designed by Metropolitan Design? Looks promising for a tear-down.

About privacy and what Floyd intended... it was exactly what he had in mind.
See: http://memorialbendarchitecture.com/12923but_hcart.jpg
"Children have a realm to themselves and adults enjoy complete privacy in a new home designed by architect William Norman Floyd for Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Mullane at 12923 Butterfly in the Memorial Dr. area."
"The house is so placed on the 70 by 120 wooded lot that it achieves complete isolation from the street side."
Then there's this one on Hansel: http://memorialbendarchitecture.com/12923han_ambuild.jpg
"House with privacy from the street"
"More homes like this one gain privacy by being constructed with an interesting wall cutting off the street view. In the tradition of the French entry garden, this is, in part, a reaction against the front-facing picture windows of recent years"
-
Well... 523 ain't lookin' pretty.

The highest concentration of them I've seen seems to be Memorial Bend, but of course that's priced over $240K and many of them have seen the developer's wrecking ball in recent years.
Fortunately, most of the houses that have fallen in MB have not been mods. I still stuffer when any of them fall, though.
-
There is another one that is even more interesting (not the Asian house) just a few doors down that has a very nice modern design. I love these houses.

By the way, doing some digging this past weekend and it looks like Burdette Keeland designed the original Memorial Bend Club. It apparently burned down but there are working drawing and presentation materials in the UH archives.

"the following link is to a house in Meyerland by the Metropolitan Design Group... "
Not sure this post is clear as to its intent: Are you suggesting the home noted below will be by Metropolitan Design Group? The contemporary home featured when you open the site would certainly be more welcome than a flickering lantern home.
"Many of you will be encouraged to know that the house at 12727 memorial in memorial bend will be a mod - -a site adaptation of the Meyerland house by the same architect - rather than something of a more traditional architectural style."
Encouraging.
Hear hear... I agree. I welcome that style house and am glad to see that if a house is going to be torn down, it is replaced with something with more modern sensibilities. It will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood and I hope it sparks a trend that if houses are going to be torn down, they be replaced with modern designs.

I noticed a lot of the McMansions are starting to sell with the completion of CityCentre. Well, except those on the feeder roads.
Can't say that I've seen them sell in the Bend. Of all the houses listed for sale in Memorial Bend, none of the McMansions are listed as anything but "active" which means they're just sitting there. Of the 3-4 houses that are option pending or sale pending, none are McMansions.

Kind of off topic but a Floyd designed MCM is about to go up for sale on Isolde... rare 4 BR with a pool. rps... do you know about this one? Hope your clients might be interested... My guess is the price will be around $400K.
