  1. That is great news for the area. Does anyone know the status of the Caroline St. reconstruction?
  2. Does anyone know the status of the Super block or is the deal off?
  3. Well, certainly i'm not crazy about any of these establishments that make midtown Social Work Alley= SEARCH, Lord of the Streets, Meals on Wheels, Recovery Center but they were there before I moved in...so just gotta deal with it till i just say enough is enough. More pro's that Cons for me at least (i'm at work in 10 min by car, 20 min by train) . I live on the wrong side of the tracks, yes, the east side of midtown. I hope with future changes (midtown superblock apartments, redo of caroline street and HCC) would bring better businesses to the eastside. Are there any more future projects that would would want people to come to live on east side of midtown?
  4. Yeah, would be great to get rid of the Parole Triangle: 1st Stop Greyhound (just released from prison) , 2nd Stop McDonalds to chow down, and 3rd Stop Texaco to get my smokes.
  5. Zoning...No zoning. I am certainly aware that complaining on this blog won't clean up the trash from my front yard, quiet the rowdiness or wake up tomorrow to a Zoned city . I live hear and just deal with it. I know i am right though that if Houston had zoning, then there wouldn't be a bar or club next to your house creating problems (trash, rowdiness, parking, etc) for residents. But getting back to the original complaint about OTC bar which is surrounded by town-homes and residents that had to deal with the disrespectful patrons from Union Bar. Clearly, zoning won't happen here in Houston. So residents and business must compromise at some point. Have your bar and drink, just keep it quiet and don't throw your trash on my front yard or anyone's for that matter! No one in the city/burbs... zoning/no zoning wants these kind of disturbances.
  6. True! And whats difficult is to get the property owner of the club/bar to show some respect to nearby residents by curtailing the rowdiness, fights, etc. Plus, getting the police to do anything about the noise (not from the club) but from the patrons is like pulling teeth. Only criminal violations count. No zoning really causes residents and business to fight each other. Why can't they (patrons) just come and go peacefully. True! 7. I feel your pain brother. No zoning sucks! And its not easy to just sell your home and pick up and move.
  8. Houston Met Dance company has started to renovate its new location: http://www.houstonmetdance.org/2012-2013-patron-packages This will be a great addition to Caroline street and with the new complete street redo; both will make the street safer and less crowded with homeless people.
  9. Does anyone know what the status is on the Milhaus Apts? http://swamplot.com/nixing-milhaus-retail-why-these-new-midtown-apartments-wont-have-shops-on-the-ground-floor/2012-02-15/
  10. I did see a sign that went up today, " Job Connections". If it is a goodwill Job Connection site, it may not be so bad. My fear is that another social service place attracts homeless people to hang outside; like Lord of the Streets or that other hole in the wall job placement center named Pace Setters Personal Services on 2614 Caroline St. nothing but crackheads there. Cops are always at Pace Setters. Thanks for your response, Kylejack.
  11. Seriously, more social services! Feel like giving up on midtown becoming anything other than what it is...social work alley. I haven't regretted buying a home in the area but with more social services going up...I'm almost there. Does anyone have any more info about this place?
  12. Thanks skwatra post #52. That makes me feel better. It looks like more luxury Apts are going to the west-side of midtown, not Social Work Alley. Wah-Wah!
  13. I wonder if anyone from IM reads these forums...it would be nice to find out what they are feeling? Especially, seeing how much IM is not wanted in midtown. I think what is not wanted are more vagrants out-and-about. Perhaps if its really just a corp office and the plans are NOT to have lines of people waiting for food or appointments then it really wouldn't cause a fuss. But if they are then I can understand why its not welcomed with open arms.
  14. To be a bit more clear. My orginal post main point is that Social Work Alley is on the East side of the light rail. Yes, midtown has changed over the years in great ways. It just seems that the west side is getting all the love (Glorias, Alamo Draft Theatres, and a new greek place just to name a few) and the east side gets more social services and that simply just SUCKS! WITH the exception of Mongoose Vs. Cobra as of recent. Clearly, i'm on the wrong side of the tracks.LOL. I'm not at all aware of what is in the pipeline for the East side of midtown besides IM (which feels more like Midtown is going in the wrong direction) and Camden Atps, and some other apts to be built off Webster. Hope any project adds even a small amount of glamour.
  15. I call Midtown "Social Work Alley" ( from 1-45 to museum district along San Jac, Fannin, Main and Caroline)...pretty much anything East of light rail is SOCIAL WORK ALLEY...fantastic bars...but the male prostitutes ruin the area! No people, they are not just walking or waiting for the bus...make eye contact and they will show you their junk. Great house, great neighbors, great location. But you do get tired of the vagrants real fast....daily i question if I made a mistake about buying in the area....I don't know anything about IM but i hope its not another place where vagrants hang out like lord of the streets, greyhound, pace setters, search, baldwin park...etc
  16. BTW, does anyone know when Crime Stoppers will be renovating their new place off Fannin/Anita/Main St. ?
  17. I noticed that too. Austin street is clear. However, at least half just moved down to La Branch and Crawford.
