Festival of Lights
November 22 - December 31, 2008
In the spirit of togetherness and tradition, Moody Gardens announces the seventh annual Festival of Lights in Galveston as the first large scale event since Hurricane Ike. Scheduled for Nov. 22 to December 31, this event features dozens of twinkling light displays reflecting off beautiful Galveston Bay. Moody Gardens is inviting the community to come enjoy what has become a holiday tradition for many. Santa Claus will kick off the celebration opening night by parachuting in to switch on the winding trail of glittering lights, with themed music and live entertainment nightly. Festival of lights is celebrated from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday Nov. 22 through Dec. 13, and nightly from Dec. 18 to Dec. 31.
Moody Gardens will feature the holiday-themed film, The Light Before Christmas, during the Festival of Lights in the IMAX Theater. At the Ridefilm Theater, guests can buckle up their seatbelts and experience the thrills of Santa's Late and Glacier Run. The holiday favorite, Polar Express 4D will be returning to the 4D Special FX Theater, where exciting special effects like snow, wind and the smell of hot chocolate will engage all the viewers' senses as they sit in rumbling seats that mimic a real train ride.
The Garden Restaurant will feature a delectable holiday buffet, offered from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
As a new holiday tradition guests can enjoy another new holiday event this year at the Moody Gardens Convention Center. Dec. 18 to 28 Island Star Performances presents The Gift of Christmas Live, a spectacular Christmas dinner and show. Enjoy exciting performances from Texas' brightest young talents and a traditional three-course Christmas dinner prepared by award-winning Executive Chef Urs Schmid.
