  1. I remember going there when I was very young. (The Rice Village Location) They had coffee with some kind of red coloring in it they called "Pirate's Blood" that my Mom ordered.
  2. I remember Leonardo's very well, I used get my late long suffering Mom, to take me there as a kid. I used to save my change to feed the Nickelodeon machines that were all over the restaurant. Loved the Italian food there, and had a lot of fun playing all the antique machines. I'd always buy a pack of Sen-Sen that they had at the cash register, and the coin operated Edison cylinder players went on to inspire me to collect a few antique wind up phonographs
  3. There was one on Kirby that went up around '68 or so, I was there at the Grand Opening because Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were doing appearances at the opening of the chain. The Kirby location may have been the first in Houston, due to their appearance. I remember there was a big crowd of kids and parents to see them.
  4. Thanks, I wonder if any pictures survive when Vittorio just had the little Village Diner, before he built that location. (He had an ancient diner/cafeteria before then)
  5. The old Meyer Bros. store was the last incarnation for The Catacombs Club in 1969, it didn't last very long before it was closed down due to the crowds. (I suspect West U. PD tagged a lot of people when they left the Catacombs) The meat locker was Martin & Klix, I remember the name from my days of wandering through The Village as a kiddo. I miss the old Village Cafeteria/Vittorio's, my Mom and I ate there all the time. Onetime we stopped by, and all of Vittorio's family was excited that Frank Sinatra came by the Italian restaurant side, the night before. They had autographed menus from Sinatra, and his party, I wish we had gone in the night before. That must have been a sight to see in the old Village.
  6. If I remember correctly, it was where the childrens section of Half Price Books is now.
  7. Memories of Spencer's Gifts. 7Up started it with a TV commercial that had one of those oscillating filament bulbs in a 7Up can lamp. I had one around 1970 when I was a kid. You can find the 7Up can lamps on eBay, the colored oscillating bulbs are very scarce, though you can substitute one of these: http://www.kyp-go.com/products.htm Balafire bulb.
  8. I was on Kitirik half a million years ago back in the early 1960s, I remember being amazed at walking into the studio and seeing Cadet Don's set in color, for a five year old it was pretty impressive back when black & white TV was the norm.
  9. I used to work in the display shop at The Original Christmas Store, we built the animated displays. It was always fun to go over to the store at 59 & Gessner to repair the displays when they would break down, imagine being subjected to the same tape loop playing Christmas songs, over, and over. They had locations all over the country at one time, I believe they went bankrupt, or shut down most of the stores in the late 80s. The place was a real zoo, you had to be there to believe it.
  10. In the late 70s they used the Galleria as a giant Neiman Marcus knock off, in a cheesy made for TV movie. (The entire Galleria site was supposed to be one giant luxury department store) David Wayne was the high rolling owner. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080795/
  11. It was The Fun Shop. Archies Magic Shop was on Main St.
  12. I remember seeing Rainbow Bridge at the Shamrock when I was thirteen, during it's first run back in '71. Awful film, but all I wanted to see was the Jimi Hendrix footage.
  13. I believe the were located in Galveston. I remember watching the station because they played a lot of old movies.
  14. How about another number the same place had: W A T C H E M
