  1. Who remembers the great Kitirk, who was the host of Ch. 13's afternoon kids TV Show ?
  2. Where were you when this newscast was aired on Ch. 13 on July 9th, 1985 ?
  3. Chaos at Ch. 13 ?

Unless you've been living under a rock for months or weeks, it appears that what's going on at Ch. 13 appears to be upping the ante. Ch. 13 Reporter Kevin Quinn has resigned after 15 years with the ABC O&O Station in order to spend with family, but it'll be interesting to see where Quinn lands next. However, he's not the only one leaving Ch. 13 as there's been speculation swirling around longtime employees exiting from engineering, community affairs & beyond over the last few months. Mike McGuff's Ch. 13 contact David Lee bolted from the ABC O&O Station as well... he went to ABC 7 WLS-TV Chicago, IL. The Los Angeles Times had an article from October of 2017, which reported the ABC Television Group was going to have layoffs across the board (Ch. 13 is owned by the Disney ABC Television Group). Then the best media blogger around, Robert Feder, reported layoffs at ABC 7 WLS-TV Chicago (Sister Station). Let me know your thoughts on Quinn leaving Ch. 13 & the overall fallout of what's been going on with the ABC O&O Station.
  4. Mike McGuff of reported that Ch. 13 Traffic Anchor Rebecca Spera posted on her Facebook page about the recent birth of her 2nd son & we're supposed to find out the name of the baby any moment now. Plus, you can give out your congratulations to Spera & her family on the recent birth of her 2nd son:
  5. When Ch. 13 Consumer Reporter Patricia Lopez left the ABC O&O Station late last year, the Disney ABC Television Group wasted no time in getting a replacement for Lopez. The San Antonio Express News announced that KENS 5 Traffic Anchor Chelsey Hernandez will be taking the job. "Working for KENS 5 over the last 3 years has been filled with endless opportunities & so many blessings. San Antonians & everyone in the viewing area are like family & it's going to be bittersweet saying goodbye to a city I've called home for 7 years," Hernandez said in the emailed release to the newspaper. Your thoughts on Hernandez coming to Ch. 13 ? Post your comments on this development.
  6. Look who joined the NHMC Board of Directors:
  7. Former Ch. 13 Meteorologist Casey Curry, who recently left the ABC O&O Station after 11 years, was seen today doing the weather segment for FOX 26 KRIV-TV during the 12:00 PM, Noon Newscasts with anchor Jose Grinan. As of September 20th, there's still NO word of whenever Lisa Vaughn will ever return over there. On Monday, Curry was guest co-hosting on NBC 2 KPRC-TV's "Houston Life" TV Show at the Galleria. It appears that every Houston TV Station is courting Curry very hard BIGLY & we'll find out soon where she lands. Where do y'all see her ending up & give me your thoughts ?
  8. There goes another one leaving Ch. 13... Consumer Reporter Patricia Lopez announced on her Facebook page that she's leaving the Houston ABC O&O Station on December 15th after 10 years. What's going on down there at Ch. 13 ?
  9. Looks like the Ch. 13 Eyewitness Weather Team is likely heading for a major shake-up BIGLY! KEYE-TV weekend meteorologist Collin Myers is heading to the Space City's ABC O&O Station. According to Scott Jones of FTV, he's reporting that Myers will be doing weekend mornings. This means Elita Loresca will be moving to weekdays, so the big question is who's on their way out of the ABC O&O Station ? A.) Casey Curry B.) Travis Herzog
  10. The revolving door from Houston TV News Stations to HISD could start a trend: Ch. 13 Reporter Tracy Clemons will be leaving the ABC O&O Station after just 3 years & heading to HISD. He joins former Univision 45 KXLN-TV Weekend Anchor Rebecca Suarez, who joined HISD not too long ago. Your thoughts on Clemons leaving Ch. 13 & going to HISD ?
  11. For those, who haven't gotten the message yet: Legendary & popular Ch. 13 KTRK-TV News Anchor Dave Ward will be signing off for the final time on Tuesday, May 2nd in the 6:00 PM Newscast. According to Mike McGuff of, the goodbye was supposed to happen last December, but Ward was hospitalized just a week before his final goodbye to the ABC O&O Station that he's been working with for 50 years since 1966. Following his recovery, he hasn't slowed down. Ward has been making numerous public appearances around town for charities & of course being honored for his esteemed TV broadcasting career. The day after he signs off from Ch. 13's newsdesk, Ward will be honored by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on May 3rd. The ceremony will take place in front of Houston City Hall at 11:00 AM, where the public is welcome to show up & show their strong support for their favorite TV News Anchor. I like to hear your thoughts & memories of Ward's 50 years with Ch. 13 over the years, so please post your comments
  12. The Crime Stoppers of Houston HQ, the Dave Ward Building was recently opened & lots of dignitaries attended the grand opening ceremonies. Let me know what y'all thought:
  13. Ladies & Gentlemen including longtime Ch. 13 viewers, starting August 3rd, longtime weekday morning meteorologist Casey Curry will leave the weekday morning newscasts & switch places with current 11:00am/4:00pm meteorologist Travis Herzog, according to the ABC O&O station! Curry joined Ch. 13's weekday morning newscast in August of 2006 replacing Doug Brown (RIP). According to Mike McGuff of, she's a very big deal on the McGuff Blog over the years. Herzog, a graduate of Texas A&M University, joined Ch. 13 about 1 month before Curry arrived, he came from KTBX-TV CBS 3 Bryan-College Station. Of course, majority of Ch. 13 viewers really want to know why are these changes necessary ? McGuff explains that there's been recent changes & lots of turnover at the station in recent years. Expect lots more changes as well as a brand new studio set (note they've updated the set recently) including the fact the station's once-dominant weekday morning newscast hasn't been dominating since November of 2013 as other rival news stations have been upping their game in surpassing Ch. 13. Since then, KPRC-TV (NBC 2) had rose to the top in terms of being #1 in the weekday morning news shows with the morning news show winner being Fox 26 KRIV-TV! The demotion of then-weekday morning anchor Sharron Melton to a Field Anchor (who eventually left the station for good) as well as the retirement of longtime Traffic anchor Don Nelson have played major roles in these constant changes. Another theory is that the station maybe feeling to add one more male on their weekday morning newscasts since Nelson was replaced by Katherine Whaley. As usual, calls to Ch. 13's higher-ups & management haven't been returned to McGuff or anyone else. Plus, Dish customers are now complaining of a yellow screen in place or over KTRK-TV. Many have complained about the situation on Social Media. Meanwhile, Dish reported that this was Ch. 13's problem! Any reaction to the swaps ?
  14. Recently as last month, people have been asking as to why is Sharron Melton (Ch. 13's weekday morning news anchor) being downgraded to just a "field anchor" ? Melton was removed from the morning anchor desk (Elissa Rivas and sometimes Samica Knight have been doing the weekday morning newscasts with Tom Koch) and now reporting in the field (still doing it as of September 26th today). This has resulted in many angry viewers emailing the station or others like Mike McGuff of for answers. Having watched some of the morning newscasts in her "field anchor" reports, I can tell that Melton is NOT happy based on body language, as what some commentators in the McGuff blog has mentioned. Any reaction to Melton's downgrading to a "field anchor" at Ch. 13's morning weekday newscasts ?
  15. Unless y'all have been living under rocks for the recent Christmas holiday break, Ch. 13 Eyewitness News weekend anchor Natasha Barrett had announced that she & her husband, Scott are expecting a baby! Thoughts on Barrett's pregnancy ?
  16. Former Ch. 13 Sports Director Bob Allen lost his battle with cancer last night at the age of 70. Your thoughts on the passing of a sports broadcasting legend: Allen spent 38 years with Ch. 13 beginning in 1974 until 2013, where he later went to KHOU-TV for the remainder of his TV sports broadcasting career. He'll be deeply missed.
  17. Deborah Wrigley, the longtime reporter for Ch. 13 KTRK-TV (ABC), is no longer with the station after 37 or more years. "We are disappointed she turned down our offer to maintain a relationship with us," KTRK-TV VP of Creative Services David Lee told "We wish her the very best & appreciate her years of service." Yesterday, Wrigley's biography on the ABC O&O station's website was removed, but there hasn't been any mention on her departure on both her Facebook & Twitter accounts.
  18. It's now official! Legendary Ch. 13 news anchor Dave Ward announced he's stepping down from the ABC O&O station after 50 years at the end of this year. The longest-serving TV News Anchor in the world is hanging it up & moving onto the next chapter in his life. Please give your comments on your memories of Dave Ward's 50 years at Ch. 13!
  19. Looking like Ch. 13's Dave Ward is entering the history books of all-time, the Guinness World Record books as he heads to 50 years with the Houston ABC O&O station. According to multiple sources &, the "Dean of Houston News" will be entering the Guinness World Records as one of the longest-running TV local news anchors throughout the entire world with the same news station in the same market for 50 years, which will be official in November. Please everyone, congratulate Dave on the history-making honors!
  20. CBS 11 KHOU-TV Sports Director Bob Allen not only has won the battle against cancer, he's also won love as well. He's engaged to photographer Megan Cardet, who's been with Bob throughout the cancer battle & over the years. Everyone needs to wish Bob & Megan the best on their future together!
  21. KTRK-TV Ch. 13 reporter John Fenoglio left the ABC O&O station, having joined the station in May of this year. Mike McGuff of will keep us posted on Fenoglio's future endeavors. Meanwhile, KPRC-TV reporter Mark Boyle will be joining WCNC-TV Charlotte, NC as an investigative reporter. He won't leave until January 2016. Reaction from anyone on these exits ?
  22. For everyone else, here's video of Dave Ward's 49 years with the ABC O&O Station: ChannelTwoNews might upload some videos he's gotten from the Dave Ward old TV promos from the 1970s & early 1980s!
  23. Where were you when Ch. 13 used the updated studio set during their Eyewitness News Briefs from February 24th, 1986 ? Because I noticed they didn't update the Circle 13 logo until sometime around March or April of 1986!
  24. Has anyone noticed the updated studio set for Ch. 13 over the weekend ? They also kept the downtown skyline in the middle of the set, but updated everything else.
