musicman Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I've seen it the past 3 weeks or so as an occasional segway into the commercial break. Definitely some of the best city scapes i've seen. Quote
Guest Marty Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Cool some of the Trans Star cams are getting old. I like the shot where there are wasp's buzzin around Ed Brandon's head about a year ago. Quote
editor Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 'Bout time. Most of the ABC O&O's have HD cameras in their helicopters. Do any of the Houston stations have this yet? Quote

Do any of the Houston stations have this yet?no hd copters there that i've seen. and no hd studio cameras at any station in houston.the helicopter shots must be fantastic! too bad they only have the one tower camera and rely mainly on the jamcams Quote
Jeebus Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 When during newscasts are they showing these HD shots, and from which area of the city are they shooting? Quote
musicman Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 (edited) When during newscasts are they showing these HD shots, and from which area of the city are they shooting?they are showing them occasionally as they segway into commericials or at the end of the newscast...they just showed greenway plaza at the end of the 10pm news. i've also seen shots of downtown. i think they are still getting the technology down cause a few weeks ago the transition between the standard definition and the hd wasn't smooth (picture jumped). but this week i think it's been pretty good.the daytime shots are just amazing... editor Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 the helicopter shots must be fantastic!I don't have HDTV, so they look the same to me. But I'm assured by the talent that I'm really missing some fantastic colors and scenery that will help me with my commute.WLS-TV did a demonstration when they first got their HD camera in their chopper. With the helicopter at a comfortable 5,000 or 7,000 feet or something they zoomed all the way in to the little bumps between the lanes of a freeway and told the audience that if they had an HDTV they could see the bumps. Of course, you could see the bumps on the standard definition TV, too, because of the zoom lens. Duh. Quote

Duh.They actually had a story today on live at 5 concerning their new HD camera which is the only one in use in Texas. The video will only be HD if it is live. anything taped appears to be standard format. But they did say that even the "regular" picture will be better due to the hd camera optics. I will say that I was impressed during the plant fire today. They were 2 miles away from the plant and broadcasting and i was VERY impressed with the clarity. Quote

It sounds like they're still using videotape at KTRK.I know you stated "tape" but I took it as a generic term people use for recording video. Lots of people I know still use the term "film" even though I know they're shooting digital. Quote
