We’re looking at moving from our starter home and I thought this would be a neat discussion. What neighborhood(s) would you move to right now if you were going to move from your current one? Is there somewhere in the city that really is exciting to you? Why?

This really is dependent on the person and whether or not they are single or have a family with kids. If you have kids, then school becomes an important factor. I grew up in the suburbs and cannot imagine living in downtown or any other urban environment. Just isn't for me. Price range is also another factor. One thing I enjoy about a neighborhood is if its walkable meaning they have lakes with trails around it. I really like Aliana in Richmond it has sort of a river that runs through the community with a trail alongside it. The Heights in Fulsear is also a nice community with many lakes and nice amenities. I've heard good things about Bridgeland in Cypress its also designed similar to Aliana. Its actually hard to find a house for sale in that community not many up right now compared to other areas. I honestly don't think any particular area of Houston excites most suburbs have the same basic layout. However, if I had to choose to move to another place, I would go with Bridgeland in Cypress. If you can afford a high price range, check out the Weston Lakes in Fulshear.

I think the “school assignment that goes with the house” has changed.

while there is a designated school assigned to homes within Montrose; it’s not necessarily the closest school. Fantastic schools like Baker Montessori, Wharton duel language, and Arabic Immersion school can all be accessed by applying and being accepted. With all of that said- I’m not sure what weight school assignment holds when choosing where to live

I'd probably downsize to a condo in downtown.  My partner has season tickets to ballet and goes to theater a decent amount.  I can't see myself moving further out as the whole reason I moved to Houston was to live in a big city.  My ideal scenario would be to winter in Houston and Summer in Chicago if constrained to United States.  Also access to medical care in old age is huge.  I have friends in Louisiana bringing their parents to Houston on the regular.

I am gobsmacked, as the Brits say, to discover that the marketing-driven elasticity of what constitutes the borders of the Greater Heights has now extended out as far as Fulshear.

Thanks for the inadvertent laugh of the day! That evokes some hilarious images.

I hate auto spell!

but who knows maybe being a duel school instead dual language  might have been the typo  needed for HISD to @#$!  With Wharton—- There were only 15% of its students attending because they lived nearby— still they took it away…………

I currently live in the Galleria area but I personally love the Heights! Specially, the area north of i10/ south of 610. Some thoughts on why I love the neighborhood.

  • It almost has a small town charm, while being in the middle of the city
  • The entire area has a very charming Victorian theme (majority of it). Even new shopping centers/ homes seem to be built with more unique styles compared to neighborhoods outside of the Heights.
    • I just love all the historic homes/ properties
    • There isn't a lot of strip centers here (which I absolutely hate about the rest of Houston)
    • Commercial properties built here seem to have more of a pedestrian realm
  • The area has numerous trails, probably the neighborhood with the most trails in all of Houston
  • The area also feels more green/ leafy compared to other parts of Houston
  • The restaurant/food options here are amazing

Just my opinion
