Wilkes Alfred Dowdy, AKA W.A. Dowdy started his architectural career in the 1910s as a partner in the firm Lane & Dowdy, Architects. The firm was composed of Ellis Lane and Wilkes Dowdy.   In 1913, Lane & Dowdy had their office in the Paul Building in room 710, written as 710 Paul Building. The actual address for the Paul Building is 1018 Preston Street.

A decade later, Wilkes' career was advanced, and he became the City Architect for the City of Houston.  In 1923, his office was in the Police Station in Room 504, written as 504 Police Station. Ironic, because I just made a thread about that building last week! It's the Harris County Annex No. 16 at 406 Caroline Street.

W.A. Dowdy resided in two places that I know of. In 1913 he lived in Harrisburg, TX and in 1923 he lived at 501 Highland Avenue.

Some of my favorite works by Wilkes is the Julia Ideson Library, Jefferson Davis Hospital, and the Carnegie Neighborhood Library.
