Milton Bowles McGinty was an underrated Houston architect that designed some cool buildings around town.

He was born in Flatonia, Texas in 1905. Milton was a graduate of Rice Institute and was the recipient of the Ward Watkins Architectural Scholarship allowing him to study abroad in Italy, France, Spain and England.

McGinty served as President of the Houston Chapter, American Institute of Architects; president of the Texas Society of Architects and director for the American Institute of Architects. In 1949 he earned the distinction of Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He served six years on the State Board of Architectural Examiners. McGinty was an architect for the Houston Public School System and served for 16 years as a member of the City of Houston Planning Commission.

Some of my favorite work by him is the Glenn McCarthy mansion and the St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital.
