Retail development at 504 West Gray Street

That's gonna look horrible.

With as much street parking and nearby residential as there is near this site, it's a shame they won't front the buildings on the street, with parking in the back. Could probably take advantage of the Barnaby's parking lot for access to the spaces at the rear.

As it is, it looks light on parking space count anyway.

Strip center appears complete. nothing opened yet I don't think.

Also found out recently that Barnaby's acquired a lot behind its current parking lot, at 319 W Pierce. This was a 1930's duplex, they tore it down and are extended their parking lot. really disappointing.

1. They bought a lot appraised at close to $500k to build a parking lot (couldn't they have built an open structure on their current parking lot for less?)

2. The 94 year-old lady who has lived at 420 W Pierce and sit on her porch most of the day now has the view of traffic

3. Removed perfectly good residential (was ok as-is, but would have normally been turned in to 2 townhomes on the block)

4. They added drainage pipes from the lot to W Pierce to add runoff to a street that floods pretty quick

I'll probably still go get their queso every once and a while but i'm a little annoyed...

That neighborhood behind there has had stuff getting torn down nearly every month, so one or two more isn't anything new. I think parking is mostly Barnaby's. It's been a problem for a while, with parking on-street even before all the other places showed up. Those probably have made the on-street parking situation worse, driving this.

The two houses on W. Pierce St. on both sides of the Barnaby's Cafe parking lot are going to be torn down. They are both empty and in very rough shape. I bet the will be additional parking lots. Barnaby's needs to spend some money on the exterior of their building, it's in very rough shape.

Demolition permits would be required to tear down the houses on W. Pierce to turn them into parking lots. I discovered that you can monitor demolition permits at this site:

 http://www.cohtora.houstontx.gov/approot/soldpermits/online_permit.htm

I chose the "Owner/Occupant" button and uses the search term Thera Investments but found no outstanding demo permits. I tried again using the Address button and using W. Pierce but found nothing there either

Be sure to complete the date search fields.

I guess one needs to do this from time to time to monitor when the W. Pierce houses will be demolished.

It's easier to look at "Permit Type" and use the drop down menu for "Demolition" which will include all demolition for the time period you choose. Or you can use the Zip Code using the dates but that will show all permits for a zip code.

Today there is a demo crew at 415 W. Pierce.

They don't have a demo permit yet but could just be mobilizing to the location and waiting till the permit is acquired. Lots of demo companies do that.

Proposed plat. Looks like they might have purchased a few houses on W. Pierce St. Every time I go by this the parking is so packed they started doing valet parking only. I wonder which business draws so many people?
