Highrise Tower
Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center breaks ground on expansion https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2021/02/02/jewish-community-center-stayed-after-harvey.html The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center leadership did consider leaving its home alongside Brays Bayou after suffering flooding damage from Hurricane Harvey, said CEO Joel Dinkin. In the end, any plans to move from the site at 5601 S. Braeswood Blvd. were nixed. Now, with a massive, multimillion-dollar renovation and expansion officially underway, the community center will add 125,000 square feet of new space. However, the net increase will be smaller, Dinkin notes, because some old space will be torn down. Added onto the center will be an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, a multipurpose space, two new year-round recreation pools, a lap pool and more. The project will also include a 10,000-square-foot office space for the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, an organization Dinkin compares to the United Way for the local Jewish community.
