Not tough times for Shipley at all, not sure about the other donut companies. Shipley has been growing and plans to accelerate the growth. Their egg and cheese kolache was a success and they’ve added it to the permanent menu (which I’m very happy about). Shipley changing their headquarters plans came after change in CEO. He didn’t agree with this move. In all honesty, even though I was very excited about the Shipley headquarters project, I do admit that this wasnt the best location for such a project. Maybe Washington Ave, maybe Midtown. But not this location. Shipley Donuts still has their manufacturing plant in the Heights where the dough is made and “experimenting” is done. I think the canceled headquarters project was going to bring both corporate and manufacturing under one roof. Maybe they liked the interstate access for logistic functions If Shipley Donuts does grow from coast to coast, there will need to be a bigger manufacturing space in the future, so there’s still a possibility for something. Hopefully better located. Quote

Seems as though Shipley's decided to standardize the recipe and now the kolaches there are smaller and less sweet. Disappointing for me. I can just go to the Kolache Shop on Heights Blvd. now for kolaches. Thankfully the location on Ella still makes hot donuts on demand. It's worth the drive. Quote

I recently tried a Shipley bold at the Almeda @ Blodgett location which is a newer location. Best kolaches ever! Dough just melts in your mouth. as for the Ella location, they’re a whole separate thing in my book. They’re the only Shipley’s in the world. Every other location is just a Shipley 1 Quote
