Maybe someone's posted links from this site before, but I haven't seen them.

While the site is supposed to be a repository of Texas life on film, I've found a number of the Houston specific clips are quite interesting. A few that jumped out at me include the following...

This clip takes a look at the groundbreaking, construction & dedication of the San Jacinto Monument. This one is a silent newsreel clip of what may have been the announcement of the Monument.

An early 60's clip (skip to 13:20) of the Humble Tower (ExxonMobil), including the view inside and from the observation deck. Afterward, there are some brief clips of Warwick Hotel's (ZaZa) glass elevator and the Mecom Fountain.

A tour of KHOU and a brief look of it's personalities, circa 1968 is also available. A segment of the HPL's archives of station film reels are also online. In addition to newsreel footage, several episodes of another KHOU program called "Set the Echoes Ringing"  are presented.

"Houston... and then some" - From the 1976, a film featuring Bob Eckels explaining how taxpayer funds are used on projects and services that benefit Harris County.

The money line comes early on...

"You own more than 3300 miles of roads, large amounts of land, suits, shoes, bread, staples and a tunnel... and even a jackass."

"When it Rains" - an early 80s (based on the appearance of the skyline) piece hosted by Carle Bensen on the bayous and flood control system.

"...Just Call Me Joe" - an 80s PSA/film from the United Way that uses a 'genie' to show a less than charitable downtown office worker about the organizations he can volunteer his time for.

Demolition of a building Downtown during the 80s. This looks to be on the block that's slated to hold the new Hines tower.

You might want to also check out numerous clips from 1968-1976 through the Thomas F. Freeman Collection. They feature glimpses into the man's role at local universities, Mt. Horem Baptist Church and a number of his home movies.
