Recommended Posts

Galveston's Scholes International Airport (KGLS) is getting pretty close to reopening. It's been closed since Hurricane Ike hit in 2008.

“This wasn’t slow rising water,” airport director Hud Hopkins said. “This was a surge. It blew everything out. We had debris that was about waist-high in the building.”

Officials decided to restore the terminal to its 1950s look and selected a local contractor, Sullivan’s Land Services, to do the work.

Maybe one day we'll get commercial flights. Highly unlikely though.

There are airports smaller than GLS with commercial service. Usually the local government kicks back a certain amount per passenger that the airline brings in. Maybe when the economy recovers, the city or county government can look into that.
