Vertigo58
they do. That's been going on forever. Not sure of the question of why theres parking lots. Person pulls, in gets out of car, enters bar, gets loaded, comes back to car, drives away, gets busted. Sounds like the ideal trap to me? Makes one wonder how much revenue the city makes on DUI cases each year. By the way, this is never going to go away, DUI that is. As long as booze flows and people stress out, the cycle will continue. Peer pressure, temptation, machismo, movies, songs, family problems/history, mental illness, cant name all of the reasons people slam em down. Its strickly a personal choice. Best to just get hammered at home I reckon. Bottoms up! Edited November 7, 2007 by Vertigo58

All i'm saying if people know that they are going to bars to drinks...how come establishments encourage drinking and driving by providing parking lots to their patrons? 713 To 214
why are there parking lots at bars?because they're not supposed to give you an alcoholic drink "to go." AND it's not illegal to drive after drinking. It's illegal to drive with "an open container of alcohol" in your immediate reach, or while intoxicated (See definition below).Texas Penal Code, Chapter 49 - Intoxication and Alcoholic Beverage OffensesTexas Penal Code,
Vertigo58
All i'm saying if people know that they are going to bars to drinks...how come establishments encourage drinking and driving by providing parking lots to their patrons? I understand. Some will start belly-aching about it being a free country, and I can do-as-I please jazz. Just wait a few minutes. Start the stop watch. Boozing is a big $$$ making industry just like porn, etc. People will drink even if standing on their heads, jumping from a plane, (on forums) no matter what. I personally dont wag my finger to people that drink it is their business if they want to kill themselves, just as long as they dont take us down with them. Happens every few seconds right? Oh man thats a whole new enchilada of a topic. I think I'll sit this one out.
emirate25
"713 to 214"...i know its not illegal to drink and then drive ( as long as your not intoxicated) but what is the probability that people go to bars and come out legally drunk? I don't go to bars very often, but I never leave drunk. I imagine if the probability was high, we would see more cops waiting at the parking lot exits. RedScare
All i'm saying if people know that they are going to bars to drinks...how come establishments encourage drinking and driving by providing parking lots to their patrons?Because government ordinances REQUIRE parking to be provided.Next silly question. emirate25
Because government ordinances REQUIRE parking to be provided.Next silly question. So then is hypocrisy by the government? I mean, first you tell me that driving while drunk is illegal but yet you will offer parking to make it a high probability to break the law? RedScare
No, not every person who enjoys a drink in a bar is a just turned 21 binge drinker. However, 21 year old binge drinkers are good for the economy, as once they are arrested, they must pay bondsmen, attorneys and court fees for their newfound right to be ignorant. It is in the government's interest to grow the economy, even if it is on the backs of 21 year old dumbasses. Therefore, government requires parking lots in bars. HtownWxBoy
Why don't cops just wait for customers to come out of bars and drive away so they can stop them for DWI?Drinking and driving isn't exactly illegal, driving w/ a blood alcohol level over a certain level is illegal... so you can go to a bar and have 1 drink and then drive and you won't necessarily be breaking any laws as long as your blood-alcohol level is under a certain limit... 0.10 or 0.08 or whatever it is in this city. sifuwong
This is a country of boozers and drunks. There won't be a way to curtail this. Plain and simple.
Jax
why are there parking lots at bars?Have you ever heard of a designated driver? Or employees who need to drive to work at a bar? Or people who drink in moderation? Etc. etc. etc.
Heights2Bastrop
Why don't cops just wait for customers to come out of bars and drive away so they can stop them for DWI?That's what a couple of Bus Cops from the fine folks at METRO did to me back in May of '93.
